Metal Gear Rising is all about becoming one of the crazy bosses a Snake might fight in one of the mainline Metal Gear games.  I mean, you:

1.  Primarily fight with a sword.
2.  Rip out your opponent's hearts and eat them.
3.  Have electrical, sword gripping high heels that you use to fight.

If that's not a cluster of crazy gimmicks I don't know what is.  Add that to a tragic backstory and a murderous fucking attitude and you've got the quirky MG boss trifecta.

I actually realised this after I equipped the infinite blade mode hair.
It was kinda insane literally tearing through guys like vamp on coffee.

In 1975, Big Boss was a violent person with a nuke. By "violent person", I mean that he's a person whose entire life had been and would always be defined by violence, one who could never live a peaceful life. Diamond Dogs continued that, and the game is currently encouraging you to build a nuke pretty damn hard (dispatch mission giving you enough fuel for a nuke, nukes causing the blockade timer on your FOBs to increase by 24 hours each, meaning that for each nuke it takes another full day before someone can invade you again)

Throughout the whole series, one thing is made clear: Snakes are violent creatures, no matter how much one sympathizes with them.
Especially ones with.....
Venom.

Them specifically?  Hard to say.  But Emmerich is at least partly responsible for the proliferation of metal gears, and the Skulls are the first example of bionically augmented humans, which likewise later became a staple of warfare.

Emmerich is absolutely cut from the same cloth as Raiden in this game though.  His logic in building metal gears is a pretty obvious parallel to MAD doctrine in real life, believing that if he can build a metal gear and drop it into a conflict zone it'll stop the fight, except within like a month every PMC in Africa has walker gears and we can see from the later games that the real gears proliferated too eventually.

By the end of the historic arc, Metal Gear Rising, you've got cyborgs that can outrun trains and slap bullets out of the air teaming up with AI war machines the size of buildings to form mercenary companies that answer to no  authority but their own.  It's a hellscape any way you slice it and it happened because people like Emmerich thought you could use weapons to stop violence.

I like your point, but one correction. Volgin was very much an earlier example of bionically augmented humans. I don't think it's ever fully explained how he got like that...(a story I'd love to have expanded upon) and the whole Cobra unit may or may not be augmented in some way. Given the abilities of the Skulls and a certain other character, it's possible the End had some early version of that treatment.

I was going to argue that the soviets are ultimately more responsible for the proliferation of gears, but that was one person supplying one set of plans to a colleague. Not Emmerich going out and building a metal gear for anyone willing to give him the resources to do so.

The tapes out and say the cobras were proto-skuls. Bit of a cop-out to me, MGS3 was the only one that didn't explain it's magic.

Maybe someone pushed Kojima into it, because there's no way a man who wanted a boss battle to last an actual week would voluntarily explain his weird magicness.

For some reason I didn't actually mind that way back in MGS3, normally stuff like that is quite bothersome for me. Then again, the fact you could gain some measure of their powers from their camo kinda made it alright :-\ early form of parasite armour? They were also made to appear kind of weak too, what with The Fear needing food to fuel the stealth camo aspect, The End being super old and such.

I really don't like the parasite stuff in this one, but for some reason even retconning that to MGS3 doesn't make me dislike it. Still my favourite MGS game.

I also feel that the story isn't really finished from MGS5, which I assume is Kojima just being Kojima and working in potential for him to not actually be leaving Konami and continuing the story. One can hope.

From what I've heard, he wrote a much more satisfying ending that got canned, and you can watch it on youtube.  I'm not going to go find it for you, because I don't want to see it yet.

Probably pushed out the door.  Konami and Kojima are tight-lipped about that.  And maybe Kojima is only on vacation or something.  Konami is really sending mixed messages...

As for MGO: http://www.konami.jp/mgs_portal/jp/info/index.php?d=201510&id=720
Its a balance patch.  Looks decent.  It'll be much harder to do non-lethal now...

It is pretty sad that this has to be a thing...
- When a player fultons an enemy, the fulton balloon and the enemy will be invincible to other teammates.

I don't like a lot of those changes, but I like to play as the infiltrator so yeah...

Very silly to end a C+D match on stuns and tranqs, though. Deaths, sensible, stuns and tranqs, less so.

From my admittedly limited perspective it seems like Desperado are some of the only intellectually honest people in the series.  They don't pretend that their violence is going to save the world.

Meh, looking over the MGO patch some more...  they are pretty much going full tilt on nerfing infiltrators and CQC.  Compounded by the fact that other classes are pretty much getting a buff of some sort.

Not gonna miss sleep grenade launcher spam.
