This is kind of why I want to play through them all in chronological order.

It might not actually help. There's enough time jumps in the series that even if you think you know what happened, it'll only take another game or DLC to totally disrupt that train of thought.

We'll probably never know the full story. It's one of the good things about the series. Any theory, no matter how convoluted, is valid until proven wrong.

I honestly thought it was a pretty solid theory when I first heard it, because - while extremely ridiculous - Kojima gonna Koje; Metal Gear gonna Metal Gear.

Even stranger, I read a thingy a few years back that Kojima did a fair bit of research interviewing actual soldiers to see their outlooks and personalities, about war and how they saw themselves as people. And a bit of that got carried over into the games, with many of the characters being composites of the people he met/interviewed and people he knew from his own life and work.

I wonder what their reaction to the MGS franchise would be like today? Even though they know it's not them, only a characateur(sp?), and a composite of many at that. Especially with the anti-war message in most games, and the humanistic approach to main pro/an/tagonists, whilst showing the depersonalization of soldiers in such conflicts, and the use of them as tools by others.

"What? I've got b00bs now? But I'm still an awesome shot? Thanks Kojima. And thank-you Fox Engine. :)"

or

"What? My bit became that bit? How? Why? That doesn't even make any sense!"

Kojima Koje's everything. Metal Gear, Metal Gears.

I wish I could find the article.

The Metal Gears in the Metal Gear series are becoming actually kind of hilarious now.

Even when the story or plot 100% doesn't need a metal gear. BOOM! there it is! It has become a cosmic law that all metal gear games (excluding the paid for demo) must have a metal gear.

Huh yeah, I was mistaken about it being Foxdie.  Might have been something I "learned" from Last Days of Foxhound, which is noncanon.
The wiki isn't clear on why Solidus aged faster, but might be because he was the "perfect" one so the Philosophers were more careful.

This gene stuff is so dumb

the Patriots, not the Philosophers

the Philosophers are the ones with the money that the Patriots used to create Cipher and later the Patriots (the AIs, that is)

When I started MGS V and people kept talking about Cipher, I kept thinking it was the Signals Intelligence guy from MGS3.  Took a while to realize they meant some organization instead of that guy, what was his name, oh yeah SIGINT.
It's weird how much I love theorycrafting in various fandoms, when I'm pretty terrible at getting the details right :P

That is ok, the story is actually pretty convoluted all things considered... and keeps getting more convoluted.
