For someone who was one of the major characters who influenced not only the original games but also Metal Gear Solid... He seems to have quite the ability to not show up. Though I guess that is to be expected given his age

Honestly the timeline is rather confusing to me in terms of exact dates.

He was born in 195X, and MGSV is 1984....
I dunno, 30-something?

So right now, there is a guy who can currently deflect bullets with a sword (yes, he could do this before MGS) and he isn't part of Outer Heaven?

I am starting to think the series forgot about him. I bet if he had boobs he would have been in it.

He was first met as a prisoner in Metal Gear..... Maybe he's just not relevant yet? I mean, in TPP, Big Boss is still on Mother Base. Not Zanzibar Land, like in MG/2.

As I understand it, he was the best soldier in Foxhound and also Solid Snake's friend.  I don't remember any sign of him being a ninja yet though, just a really skilled infiltrator.  Fought with punches and I think a helicopter?  Heh kinda like Liquid...  DUN DUN DUN??  Yeah that doesn't begin to make sense.

...Until MG2 and MGS1/TS, in which he fights Snake a bunch of times?

Well I mean, I don't think they stopped being friends.  Grey Fox just wanted to die in glorious battle against his friend, because he was fucking insane.  Becoming a cyborg didn't *help*.

Okay okay, I don't think he was trying to die in MG2.  But he was obsessed with combat, particularly with someone he respected so much.

I haven't played Ground Zero or Peace Walker, so I felt left out for a lot of Phantom Pain...  Kinda worked out, though.
"Jesus, why do the soldiers keep hanging up these 'idol girl' pictures?"  "Why is everyone so mean to this nice scientist who looks like Otacon" "Ocelot's here?  Sweet, I'll just accept that!"
"HOLY SHIT BALLOONS"

Come to think of it...  I think it was about 9 years ago that I got hooked on MGS3 :o

Becoming a cyborg always helps. It helps everything. Especially the existential, bat-shit insane, kind-of-wanting-to-die thing. Just look at Raiden and Sam.

It helped heaps.

Also, what does D-horse have that D-walker doesn't? Leaning. D-Walker might get the guns and gizmos, but D-horse is damn close to being a high speed tactical box. I've seen some streamers pull off some pretty stupid moves just by leaning and running into the middle of outposts.

You thought soldier's vision was weird normally? Jump on a horse and lean to the correct side. You can often run circles around them as you decide where you'd like to attack from. You can even dive off D-horse and perform a high speed tactical takedown if you time it right.

The idol posters say "Our Idol of Peace, Paz!" but Paz means peace.
It's like the Los Angeles Angels.

Also, I think... I think

Minor spoiler there, but their surnames are the same, they look similar as you've said... Scientists.....

Oh, yeah, I totally knew that. Didn't know much about him except what little you learn in mgs2  (which is more about Hal. Poor screwy Hal, screwy family)

I don't think it's a spoiler at all, they have the same last name and look and act so similar :p
Though if Hal's a clone, I'm not aware. Seems unlikely given things I heard.

How long does cloning take in the MGS universe? Is it normal grow-up time, or faster?

Don't clones age quite a bit quicker or something?

Maybe Punished "Venom" Snake was a clone of himself all along. A crazy daemon clone, gene modded to all hell, just for Cypher's amusement, to discredit the real Snake's dream. 9 years is a long enough time for plenty of MGS logic to make it possible.
