I just cleared out the airport and found a few precious metal containers... except they are inside a hangar. I don't suppose I can winch them out with a truck or something? =(
By the way, when my guys earn medals do they do anything? and is there a way to see what they are aside from the uninformative icon below their portraits?

E: Snake does not SCRREEEAAAAMM when firing an LMG full auto. BOOOO

At first I thought about blowing up the ceiling, but it seemed far too noisy.

Later I found out it'll probably require the ultimate fulton upgrade.

As for medals, I think they're accompanied by stat boosts.

Medals do increase stats, and yes you do need the Super Fulton.
I recommed the Legendary Animal Side Ops. They'll give you hints about how to get the Super Fulton and JEHUTY

Also... I don't know what you guys were doing, but I got the truck at the airport. I just sprinted there and stole the convoy's guards before they left.

Playing the mission for the first time ever.

I was also, in fact, playing the mission for the first time ever. Not waiting for people to come to you is a thing. :P
Apparently people like the fox paint because BLACK FEET or something.

I think it's kinda comparable to the tuxedo actually.  Completely useless, just looks attractive, best considered a joke or a "I'm so badass I don't need armor" thing.

The Tuxedo was secretly a great armor in Peacewalker.

It dampened footsteps very well without the inventory penalty that naked gives you.

But there's no added hilarity of crawling around in a tuxedo in the dead of night with a shotgun and rocket launcher strapped to your back.

Just use D-Walker's gun. It takes a while, but it works.
D-WAAALKEEER
Not to sound like a broken record. :P It only took a few tries for me, personally, and I don't think I had its gun upgraded at that point.

Care to share some advice, friend? :P
As for D-walker...  I think I have the machinegun, but not really upgraded at all?  I mainly use it as transport with tranq darts...

Just USE IT
I recommend equipping him with lethal secondaries so you don't waste precious minigun ammo on the unimportant targets.
And the task-CQC arm too, if you have it.

There's a ladder on the near side of the hangar, adjacent to the back of the hangar. Climb up to the roof and they have only one, easy-to-dodge attack that can hit you.

Finally got it.
Didn't want to exit out and re-start the mission just to equip D-walker, sorry, I would have except that I was so close already.  And I have very few upgrades on it...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Ordered extra ammo, but ended up not quite needing it.
Pretty sure I tried that 30 times.  Very cool looking, almost cinematic...  Wish it had been a cinematic.

Ah, okay.  That's pretty close to what I ended up doing.

Edit:  I got an A rank and the Butterfly emblem :P
