I'm figuring the walker will be better for open country infiltration, then I can get off and go in on foot for actual compounds.  Unless there's a giant cardboard box upgrade for him.

He should also be good for any missions where you expect things to go loud.

I've noticed that Quiet fires quickly when you enter Reflex.
Very quickly.
Quick enough that the enemy has a bullet through his brain before he even begins to fall over from the tranqing, if you tranqed him.
That's been annoying on... several occasions, but sometimes when she's been busy/I've been EXTREMELY fast it hasn't.

A few thoughts, based on what I read in the last couple of pages and my own experience:

Horseback anti-tank = pure awesome. I remember galloping after tanks, firing rockets at their rear, in the mission where you have to stop a tank unit and their commander from reaching a fort. Who said proper cavalry was dead?

I can't bring myself to use the sneaking suit and derivatives much: I find visual camouflage much more valuable than silent footsteps when crouching. Because on the one hand, once you're close enough, having to sneak-walk is just a small inconvenience. And on the other hand, I don't abuse the fast-forward cigar thing since it feels cheap to constantly skip to sunset. I wish the game rewarded operating during the day, since it's the more difficult choice and there's no downside at all to taking the easy road. I've been seeing an increased amount of NVG-wearing soldiers lately, however, and I wonder if it's a coincidence.

Backup, Back Down mission: I had D-Horse, and merely picked a spot along the road the vehicles drove along and used a combination of C4 and the GROM launcher, in that order. I missed the Electrospinning specialist, though, so I need to redo that mission to get him and gain access to DD's first armour upgrade.

On the subject of C4, it's been incredibly useful to blast critical things like antennae, generators, radios and AA radars. It's also handy to scatter around large bases, and detonate to draw enemies to investigate, ideally out of your way as you make your escape.

Hellbound mission: I infiltrated the first half of the base in the wee hours and through a sandstorm, and morning caught up with me in the second half. Camo and a lot of prone crawling is vital to remaining undetected in broad daylight. Stick to the shadows and grass whenever possible. The left-side door of the bunker-hangar was locked, but the right-side one, the one at ground level, was open (blue). If guarded by two soldiers, which I managed to sneak past. That's how far I've gotten, to date.

On the subject on neutralizing people non-lethally, short of fultoning, holding up a guy and telling him to get down semi-permanently neutralizes him. He won't get up unless someone finds him or the base's alert level goes up. I've been doing a lot of hold-ups (and without sneaking suits), mainly to get info and save tranq ammo.

Holdups are great.

NVGs are definitely a big counter to the sneaksuit.  The only real answer is to use the box or go prone in thick grass.  They pretty much turn any open space into immediate spotting ground if you're in the sneaksuit, though it seems like the daytime camo fares a little better.

As for C4, I guess it really comes down to how much it impacts your score.  It's not like Sniper Elite where you can blow shit up in one area and have guys a few hundred yards away not notice, sounds carry pretty far in this game.

Also, to answer my own question from a while back it turns out that if you replay missions with notable targets you've already captured like the spetsnaz commander they're replaced with generic dudes with random stats.

You've to be careful when using C4, but it generally doesn't impact your score. It does raise the alert level to Moderate if it was Low, but it's not a combat alert. The soldiers hear the explosion, report it and move in to investigate the source.

When I use it as a distraction, I do so if the base is already on Moderate alert for whatever reason (like soldiers finding a knocked-out buddy). Otherwise I plant it on critical objects in case shit hits the fan: if that happens, their communication will be impaired and the base might go dark if I managed to get the generator (mainly useful at night). If things really go south, a destroyed radio transmitter will prevent them from calling for external reinforcements.

If I had seeded the C4 and manage to sneak out clean, I might still detonate it for good measure. I'm not certain how long it takes the enemy to repair damaged equipment, but it's not instant. Maybe a day or two. Doesn't change much, anyway.

But of course, if you're going for an S-rank and need the base to remain relaxed throughout, C4 would ruin that I guess.

I'm always going for S rank.  Does anybody know if naked camo impacts your visibility?  It's pretty rad, even if Snake apparently shaves and waxes his whole body every day.

I'm initiating an artificial selection campaign for the CFA while I'm between missions.  Anyone with at least a C gets fultoned, all Ds and Es get a bullet to the head.

In retrospect it's not really artificial selection since everyone is removed from the CFA in either case.

For me, the S rank is something to achieve at a later time, after I've played the mission in question. Otherwise, a perfect run deprives you of many of the toys you have at your disposal. Not to mention it can be incredibly frustrating in certain episodes. While I do reload at times, in the most extreme WTF moments, I try my best to roll with the punches, prioritizing stealth but preparing myself for contingencies.

As for Naked camo, given it's a setting of every camouflage pattern, I'd guess it has no impact on visibility.

As a sidenote, while Quiet's fanservice is notoriously gratuitous at times, the player's quite free to up the manservice as well, cladding Snake in the tight, form-fitting sneaking suit or using the aforementioned bare-chested outfit options. Not 100% egalitarian as Quiet has no sensible outfit options (as far as I know), but better than many games which merely opt to give females skimpy clothes and males well-covered, sensible outfits, leaving player choice out of it entirely.

My presumption is that Naked propbably has the same effects it's always had, i.e. Snake gets tired faster and takes more damage. Most of the other unstated basic Metal Gear staples are in (like stance changing your heal rate) are still in, so I see no reason for this one not to be.

I just captured my first tank =D I wonder how well it would fare in that tank reinforcement mission we've been discussing. One of the 'objectives' is to destroy all tanks without resupply, so that might be a way...?

Right now I'm trying to clear as many side ops as I can before continuing to Africa... because why not? I noticed one of the side ops I've already done has seemed to respawn, interesting. Also grabbing all of the delivery point invoices that I've missed while I'm at it.

I'm seeing a lot more B and A rank people now, and even some A+ and A++

Apparently there's a hidden 'No Traces' bonus that gives you an extra 100,000 points, which is almost always a guaranteed S-rank. To get it you can't be detected, can't use weapons, can't CQC(?). Seems most viable for the main ops where you rescue prisoners and such. It's not something I'd ever considered, since the game really encourages tranqing and fultoning everyone you see.

This is a fucking nightmare though.  I'm doing the Afrikaans interpreter mission.  This is the worst fucking thing ever.  It's not even hard, it just takes a thousand years and there's no checkpoints so if you fuck up at the last minute cause your silencer broke then that's gg, start over.

I think I'm on the verge of moving on to Africa. Remaining side ops in Afghanistan don't disappear, do they? Can I return to said country at any time?
