If you're going to kill them, you might as well use a Stinger on them.

Nah, they don't die.  They just fall asleep.

If they're still asleep from enough tranquillizer to "take down an elephant", according Otacon, when they hit the water, they're probably going to drown.

You didn't pass up the opportunity to call the Colonel did you?  reload your last save, and call the Colonel there.  Then stand around (somewhere other than the stream) and see how long it takes him to finish.

Every time something odd happens there's a codec call for it. Including standing under the yellow waterfall.

Especially lying on top of your escort mission target.

Bah, I tried a couple of calls, but apparently... it was supposed to be the Colonel?

I'll keep that in mind for my next playthrough, because I do intend to stream some Metal Gear stuff at some point.  And replay.  You know... when I've stopped killing myself every two seconds.

Given what I know about this game, I can take it that Otacon is going to be a very unhappy man.  Or is that Rose that's going to be throwing frying pans... ah.

MGS3 has a great codec call if you're inside a box.

It never even really occurred to me, but if you take that event as canonical, then it means Otacon's last memories your escort target are going to be tragically awkward.  That poor poor man.

Dammit, now I really want to play that game.  I should put some effort in.  If worst comes to worst, I'll find some awesome roommates and hijack their electronics.

Hohoho.

I'm a bit sad that it didn't occur to me to tranq the parrot when I saw it... oh, well.  I guess it's made of plot-activated titanium.

EDIT: ... Nice abusive relationship.  Rose doesn't respect boundaries, and Raiden hits her... I can't wait to see how Rising resolves this =/

EDIT EDIT: I kind of hate myself for liking Vamp so much.

EDIT EDIT EDIT: Alternatively in the "messing with Emma" camp is codecing her while you've, er, crawled on her...

I can't believe that when you tranq her, she says "Mmm, Hal."  I mean... seriously... Kojima?

Well, I'm at what is theoretically the last boss of the game.

Hurm.  Dude is a pain.

EDIT: Ending... OH GOD WHAT A TRAINWRECK

And what's this about getting to play as Snake again?  I don't remember that happening at all.

That mode is basically a hardcore mode.
It changes the story and gameplay to suit Snake. There is no voice acting and soliton radar. It was added because of the backdraft raiden caused.

Wait, the so-called "Snake Tales?"  Huh... I thought there was supposed to be a playable segment in the normal release, though.

So, I have to say that it was obvious part of the point was that the "real game" was happening elsewhere.  The game where you play as Solid Snake and help the dumb rookie, and get to do all sorts of cool stuff, and where you aren't so likely to slip in seagull shit or pound yourself into the stairs "rolling" (cartwheeling).

And where you can actually hold a person up with a gun well.

All the same, there was a real story to be told, even though you weren't the focus of the mission's story, and were never going to be.  And... I don't know.  What can I say?  I was very impressed.

Even though I thought Emma should have died by accidental sniping, rather than Vamp.

And, more than that, I actually found fighting as him really fun, by the end.  Really, really fun.  And, surprisingly, even though the difference between playing him and Snake was pretty superficial, I found myself using a really different style...

Yeah, it was great.

Remember how I promised a bunch of essays a long time ago, and never got around to them?  Well, they've been sitting in my bookmarks for a while, and I haven't found anything better... and so, without further ado, a hell of a lot of symbolic analysis!
