hey all,

long time lurker/player, first time poster. In my current game which i started fresh in 31.25 everything was going fine, i took a little break, came back and now when i load the save the only materials available for forging items at my magma forges is steel and adamantine, althought the forge i had making zinc cages on repeat is still doing it fine .. wondering if the raw files in my save got corrupted and if its possible to fix it or is something else going on here ? anyone had this happen to them before or have any ideas?

Magma forges?  Try stockpiling ore/bars closer to the forges.  If they're too far away, they don't show up on the forge's options, although a manager order will work regardless of distance.

didn't work. tried building a regular coke forge too and still only steel/adamantine shows as available construction ores. and only steel/adamantine items show up on managers list yet i have 100s of zinc, brass and copper.

Open the manager screen, and type "spear".  What options for material types appear?  If only "Forge Adamantine Spear" and Steel appears, then something is grossly wrong.

for weapons/armor seems to be working  as i get for spear: iron/copper/bronze/steel/bismuth/adamantine and wooden under management screen

but anything (cages/trap components/etc) else just steel/adamantine.

Really?  So you can't, for instance, construct a zinc statue, or a copper cage, or iorn table, etc?  Please explain any and ALL mods you're using.

exactly.

no gameplay mods.

latest phoebus graphics, sound sense and dwarf therapist is the only things i use.

i can try uploading the save game if you want to take a look.

I don't see any problem in your save... at all...  In fact, you have several forges set to "Forge Zinc Barrel /R" and "Forge Zinc Cage /R".  The manager screen shows all this available as normal, and the forge menu shows all the right stuff.  Your smelters seem to have all the appropriate actions available as well.

Also, you fort looks... asymmetrical, to put it politely.  What up with the odd dig designations running off into unknown areas?

yes some of the forges had the zinc cages/barrels set on repeat. but i can't set any new forges to do so. nor does it show up on my manager. weird. i'll try reinstalling 31.25.

regarding the asymmetry, its a huge fort including outside space with surrounding fortifications and hills, lava moat (to be filled), trap gauntlet and much more. dig designations going to nowhere could be mining shafts for hematite/marble/obsidian or the lava funnel from the pipe to the moat depending on what you are looking at.

do a zhack prospector on it and see how much gold that map has

i honestly can't figure it out. deleted the whole df folder, reinstalled fresh 31.25, put back the save, updated save raws, installed phoebus and updated saves, loaded game up. still the same problem.


guess i'll try playing genesis for awhile

I grabbed the save to see what the commotion was about.

However I was able to command all the workshops, forges or whatever, to do whatever with whatever materials were on hand. 

I also wasn't getting terrible fps on it.

Then for fun I abandoned and reclaimed it.  WOW what a mess that left...

I (and probably girlinhat and ledgekindred?) did not do this when testing your save. (fyi it worked for me)

Try just pasting the folder into a fresh DF install.
