So... With the current bug that kobolds die at year 4 during world gen if you don't give them the ability to farm or not having to eat and drink, will half the undead forces closing in on your fort be from the extinct kobold civs?

I want kobold necromancers.

Imagine one of those little guys, with a black robe that's a few sizes too big for him and a big, evil staff, going all "Rawr! Attack, my undead minions!".

And then he gets distracted by a shiny rock.

Zombie, cities and curses! I think some modders (myself included) are going to be very happy once it comes out.

The "Records Keeping" skill should be duly renamed to "Psychic Stockkeeper"
Why? There is no stockkeeping but psychic stockkeeping in a Dwarf Fortress. Might as well rename Burger King Whoppers to "Cardboard Whoppers."

From the "current developments" thing:
Quote
The goddess of blight, disease and death was named Spothrib Sweatsucker. In the late winter of 41, she created a brass slab engraved with the secrets of life and death. It was named Suckmucus the Dead Manges. She gave it to her pupil, Issha Goodpondered, who learned from it and then hid it under the town of Wanderedwreaths before fleeing into the wilds to start raising corpses from battlefields. There the slab remains!

Makes me wonder if Toady is setting the foundation for the player learning how to do necromancy/curse stuff in adventure mode (via finding these slabs) and/or for worshippers of various patron deities to unlock curses/blessings in fortress mode to wreck havoc in or assist player forts. After all, blight, disease, and death are all potentially represented in dwarf pantheons...

How about as an adventurer you find one of theses tablets and become a necromancer(toady intends to make this possible according to FoTF)

The human guard slashes your left arm.
The severed part sails of in an arc!
You invoke your necromatic powers!
You raise your left arm as an undead minion!
The severed left arm punches the guard in the head fracturing the skull and bruising the brain
the Human guard has been struck down!

Did you know that if you write 3.14 on a piece of paper and hold it in a mirror, it will say pie? And if you divide 42 by 3.14... you get 13.37!

Unusual side-effect of .26 update: Necromancy has now become the #1 method of Adventurer healthcare, as it was deemed entirely easier to reattach a dead arm than to perform surgery on a living one.  All successful adventurers transition to undead.

Adventurer necromancers are down to whether Toady has time to make the interface for this new feature. I would not be surprised if that slab is simply there for future historic figures to become necromancers, not for adventurers. This is only a temporary situation of course, given time Toady will make it accessible for adventurers. Just maybe not this immediate next release.
