If mibbit isn't blocked, I'd just go with the down, dirty, and simple plan of PM's over IRC.

Yeah, I was going to suggest this. I use IRC mostly as a discussion chat client these days.

Or you could use Meebo if you'd rather use some instant messenger without downloading.

There's a reasonably nice IRC web interface at wsirc.com, just set up a fresh channel on one of the big irc networks and away you go. If you're up to it you could host your own server and have operator status to deal with annoying people.
