My friend and I are attempting to coordinate on a coding project but he is stuck using a school computer while I am operating at home. As such we need a chat client that meets the following standards
-It cannot require an installation. His student account lacks that privilege.
-It must be able to support closed, private conversations.
-It cannot be a part of the Google social suite. That is blocked.
-PC/Mac friendliness is preferred, but not wholly necessary. PC friendliness is necessary.
I appreciate your help in this matter.

If you can find a browser IRC client that isn't blocked, you could set up a channel for yourselves. Also, check whether or not the Windows machine has Messenger pre-installed; school computers at my school had it once, so that's a marginal possibility.

If you can port forward at home there's something called XMPP, or "Jabber". You'd need to know what you're doing, but if it's for a coding project then I think installing and running a chat server and finding a web-client shouldn't be too hard.

You can't... install Pesterchum. It's just a java executable. Or at least it was last time I checked.

I assumed he meant download, and that is what I was working on because I know my school would never allow you to download something like that... But. Hey that might do it I guess.

Yeah, it's a nice little thingie. The English on that site is rather clunky, though. Switch to Polish, like real men do.

However, considering what you're going to use it for, I'd suggest something with message archivization ability. The downloadable version of G-G does have that, but not the browser-based one.

I'd suggest using Google Docs - it's a fully cloud-computing based suite, allows many users simultainously to edit documents, spreadsheets, drawings, and has a built-in instant messenger, as well as calendar and some other nifty thingies.
For discussing and coordinating a project like yours, it might be just the thing.
