Wands or running.  Undead are cold resistant as well, but not as badly.

As a holdover from my ADOM days, I like having some melee backup even if I'm a primary caster.  It's nice to have an answer to every threat.


And you can put me in your team if you want.  I suck, but it's better than an empty slot, right?

My little kobold berzerker got his 2nd rune !
Can't believe it, first game i managed to get a rune in online play, and just now i got 2 of them.

This one was an epic run in Swamp, there was this huge vault with tons of dragons and hydras inside.
Used a bunch of Brother in Arms (costed me nearly 2 faith ranks) and a trog-given nice sling i recently victory danced with to get a nice skill level to use, both Brother in Arms and the sling saved my character.

Then i entered the vault and cleaned it, until i saw the Lernaean Hydra
That thing annihilated all my remaining Brother in Arms army in few turns, and laughed at my attempts to shoot it from afar (something that worked nice with the regular hydras).

As i knew it had 27 heads/attacks, no way i would fight it in close combat, i berzerked and ran away... but the thing actually run even quicker than a berzerked character despite the bot state it has the same speed as Sigmund !

Then once it got close, it attacked and took out a lot of my lot of health at that point in only 1 turn.

Good i had some blinking scroll as it allowed me to reach the stairs.

Annoyed i looked for a different stair entry, and went back to finish the vault exploration.
Didn't found the rune, a bit disapointed and puzzled (considering how big and very well defended the vault was) i went outside and started to explore around to see if there was another vault... until i ran again to the Lernaean Hydra.

Teleported out of there (though it managed to close and attack/hurt me a lot before the damn teleport activated) and looked around.
After some time .... the Lernaean Hydra again ! the damn thing had found me where i wasn't expecting it.
I was fortunately near stairs and used another Blink scroll to get back to safe zone.

But all in all, i had nearly explored the whole level, maybe there was something i missed in the Vault, and hopefully the Lernaean Hydra would stay where it was, away.
I re-explored the Vault and found a corner i thought to just be a wall (so i didn't came close) and in fact wasn't and was a corridor leading to the rune !

With luck, the Lernaean Hydra was nowhere to be seen and i could run back to my Hive stash.
Can't believe this little kobold berzerker is always alive.

Ah crap, just when i needed it 3 times in a row "you fail to use this ability" when trying to get some brother in arms in a dangerous situation, i then knew Crawl was going to do something bad.

I bezerked to attack nearby Nikola as i had weaker character offline that killed him, and noticed that i was unable to land a hit for some reason, retreated to stair away as upstair there was only 2 ways enemies could attack me (and the room was a bit crowded), but as soon as i went up, -paralyzed- (no idea what did it as my character was facing Nikola and a cyclop once upstair) then unable to move, my character got hammered by Nikola until death.

It was a fun run, my best online character ever (got to level 21) , too bad it got that annoying paralyzed ending as it certainly could have survived for a bit more.

 My Demigod Gladiator is struggling at the moment, too many fights are going close to the wire and costing me consumables - I've probably tried to raise too many of my skills, so I'm not enough of a focused killing machine yet. However, this was a very satisfying moment:

 I saw the priest appear in the doorway to a stone structure, so, aiming at the door frame behind him, I shot a wand of lightning - a triple-zap later and he was dead. To put this in context, the second high priest I met got me very low on hps with his demon army, forcing me to use my last potion of speed to kill him. There are still at least two more on the level, I'm considering using needles of frenzy on them to shut down their spellcasting.
 Both Orc:4 and Lair seem to be beefed up this time around. The acid blob on Lair:8 was an unwelcome surprise... along with the several packs of (stair-dance unfriendly) elephants and the pack of orange rats that have spawned on the previous levels (seemingly punishments for spending far too long dawdling).

Yeah, the last floor of the lair is a loooot more brutal now. Might wanna hold off until you finish the hive to do it, frankly.

SO MANY GHOSTS UGH! I'm getting tired of getting a good run only to be stopped by some random ghost whether its spamming mephitic cloud or summoning an entire army of Imps. It really ruins my gameplay.

Just got to the branch end of Lair and decided to abort when I noticed a herd of death yaks. Heading to hive next with this orc priest which, incidentally only has one follower, an incredibly badass orc sorcerer named Berold.

Seriyu and Berold go to the realm of Zot.

Try skipping Orc when you first see it. It's harder in general than Lair (at least 1-7).

Wands of lightning are hardcore.  I had an ice caster roll up to Menkakure and think "Oh crap, ice won't do much on him.  Hmmm, wand of lighting?" He ate two shots and died like a wimp.

Damnit, blurry eyes kept me from reading a scroll of blink at the right time.  I just lost my best equipped character yet.
