2nd win in a row. I wanted to go for all 15 runes, but my mutation set got pretty bad after getting Cerebov's rune. Notable moments: Killing Cerebov while only taking 10 damage and this:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I found out that lich-form doesn't regenerate health over time anymore. :(

Congrats Demos.  You put your team back ahead.

Meanwhile, my promising HECr died due to my impatience on Elf5.

My Demigod Earth Elementalist has been affected by teleportitis since several dungeon floor, that's really dangerous, good that i have now controlled teleportation spell, at least it should help to not throw me into some insane situations that i escaped until now only thanks to my equipment.

But i would really like a cure potion for this, as it's not possible to know when the teleportitis will activate , to be able to cast controlled teleportation before.

Now that exams are over (Not that I needed to study, nor do I rarely ever study, but I wanted to) I can get back to this, and catch up somehow.

I'm trying the Online Tile version and I don't really find it enjoyable. The Map feature is a bit odd to me and its got a noticeable lag that's quite annoying for me.

Just lost the orc priest to louise banishing me, after falling through a shaft. I was pretty helpless against larger threats without berold, and well, the abyss will do that. :P

Knew I shoulda looked up the info on them. Still did dang good!

I can't believe my Demigod Earth Elementalist is always alive, many locations have been difficult and up to now he always managed somehow to survive.

But in Lair:8 he walked on a zot trap with the result to be cast into Abyss, very very bad news as despite all i looked there was not a single book to give me call imp, my favorite helpers, so surviving this will be though.

After walking and surviving for some time in Abyss, i found a gate out of it.
I walked into it, pressed the > key and :

"You stop descending the stairs" ... You must be kidding me, just after the character was starting to go through the gate, the Abyss just teleport him away !
Talk about insane bad luck.

As i can't really hope to stay alive until a rune spawn, my only hope for my character is finding another gateway. Now surviving until then will be difficult considering Crawl seems to want to kill this character now.

Update : after lots more walking, teleport spell to run away from overwhelming Abyss monsters ... i found the Abyss rune !
First time i survive in an online crawl game in Abyss long enough to find that rune.

And additional good news, found a second gateway and this time Crawl didn't teleported me away while i was going through.
Escaping the Abyss is a big relief.

I'm currently in front of the Swamp vault, unfortunately for me it's the undead vault ending, and i don't have anything that can provide me more than 1 level of negative resistance and even so it would mean getting rid of an item that give me good bonus, so if i go inside with all those clouds i'm going to be drained a lot and certainly die anyways.

As my character has a nice 13 skill in Earth and 15 in spellcasting, and a geomancy book i remembered there was a spell to break rocks and stones, i went back to my stash and learned Lee Rapid Deconstruction, so i could use it to make an entry close to where i think the rune is, avoiding a certain death in those vault clouds.

I looked up the lrd spell need "60 power" to destroy a stone wall and "80 power" for metal walls.
Fortunately, the vault use actually stone wall, so it looks like i will not need the higher spell power
My power level for LRD looks rather high, so i imagine it's more than 60 :

But using it multiple time on 1 single stone wall of this vault result in "the wall shatters" , it makes an explosion (and kills things behind that wall as i get experience) , but the wall is always there, and i must have used lrd at least 20 times on that stone wall.

What kind of game mechanics am i missing that prevent LRD to destroy those damned stone walls ?

EDIT :
the game mechanics i was missing is randomness, in fact the walls are destroyed randomly, i threw 20 LRD on a wall that shattered 20 times but stayed there, then LRD another wall in another sector and it exploded and disappeared in the 1st cast.
Tried that on several walls, some took 15 hits before disappearing too.
So yes, it's apparently random.

EDIT 2 : got the Swamp rune !
It was indeed located where i thought and after dozen and dozen of LRD finally a wall near the rune disappeared, allowing me to fetch it with very few contamination from the pestilence clouds (though it was only few turns but i got rotted 2 times , poisoned and slowed down, good i have lot of healing potion to counter the rot).
Without LRD due to the lack of negative resistance items i have, i would never have been able to get that rune.

If my HEWn leaves a ghost down on Orc 4 with that DDAE that killed me. . . some is screwed.  There was some type of vault that spilled out tons of priests, sorcerers, and high priests.  And then you're going to have two ghosts shooting lightning at you.  I pitty the poor soul who finds it.

Got my 3rd rune in this Demigod Earth Elementalist game from Shoals.

A big surprise considering i never really went far with that race when playing offline tile, but i must say that the lack of god abilities is very very annoying , as annoying as how slow skills are improving with the -1 everywhere.

Demigods have the biggest starting stats though, which, depending on your type of game play, can affect you.

You need some luck in your levelups too so your Demigod increase the stats that truly matter for your class.
It's nice to become more and more agile, but if you were hoping for intelligence points to get less spell hunger, it can be a problem.

I can't complain much in this game as i found some nice +intelligence items that truly helped my character to avoid the "stat roulette" demigods are affected with, actually that's exactly why this character (or any other i got to play for long) survived : finding good items/wands relatively early and finding good equipement with nicer bonus to get a chance in specific branches.

Anyways, i'm happy to say that Boris has been annihilated (at least once, as he'll be back anyways), that ancient lich destroyed a good character i had previously, but this time i saw him sleeping in Vault, went back to a book shop and bought a necromancy book just to learn Dispel Undead.

As i had a good Necromancy skill (as i didn't found any summon book, i had to take Animate Dead instead to get some very needed meat shields, it got my character to train Necromancy skill) , poor Boris didn't really stood a chance as Dispell Undead was nearly at its max power.

--Spell power--

Per the Crawl learndb:  (Entry for "spell power")

Got bars (#)? You have at least 0, 5, 10, 15, 25, 35, 50, 75, 100, 150 power.

Therefore, 8 #s is between 75 and 100 power.

And IIRC there are some indestructable walls, but I think they're listed as "unnaturally hard."

thanks for the numbers.

I used a lot more LRD while clearing Crypt to use the as a tactical advantage against the hordes of skeletal warrior (viva Dispel Undead) and the result is obviously based on randomness (i never used on indestructable walls so far), sometime a same material will completely be destroyed in 1 shot, sometime it needs (much) more use despite the spell power is indeed above the required amount.

It's probably done like this so Shatter feels more powerfull (considering it's a much higher level spell), i don't know for sure as i never used Shatter

So as a conclusion, do not use LRD as an escape spell, if you're not lucky it may never break the wall preventing you to run away. Use it in preparation when no monsters are around or for damaging what's behind it

Also from LearnDB:

# You need the following amount of spell power to have a shot at destroying a wall: rock: 40, stone: 60, metal: 80. Green crystal has a chance to be shattered regardless of spell power.

Emphasis mine- those are minimum numbers to be able to break it.  I don't know specifics, but I'm sure the higher your power the better your chances.  ~80

And for fun, the calc for spell power:

(Spellcasting/2 + 2*avg school skill) * INT divided by 10 * (1.5 ^ enhancer count). Now halve the part over 50, halve the part over 100, halve the part over 150, and plain cap at 200. Negative enhancers use 0.5, not 0.66.

Enhancers are things like elemental staves and rings of fire/ice.  Rings of wizardry just reduce spell failure and aren't enhancers.
