In real life, a mountain...
« on: May 12, 2011, 08:07:08 am »

In real life, I am touring a mountain range south east Asia.
I stood at the top of a steep cliff, 3700 meter above sea.  Ocean is in the distant horizon.
The cliffs are solid marble, deep narrow valleys, only one winding trail to here.
The opposing cliff to the north  is volcanic rock, with some volcanic glass in evidence.
Below me, clouds.  They rain onto a lake, fed by two narrow mountain rivers.  On three banks it has thick red clay, on one bank a beach of black sand.
Dense evergreens up to the tree line, further down is tropical forest.

A bit loopy from the altitude, the first thing in my head is "This would be the perfect place for a 4x4 embark."
...the second is "With 6x4 I might get the ocean.  I saw conglomerate there this morning."

That's really funny! On another thought, this make me want to hike through the oregon cascades.

If I had played DF -before- graduating college, I'd have been a geology major and not a physicist.

Don't worry, I'm sure that when we have the Improved Mechanics stuff, your Physics degree will come in handy when we are talking drag coefficients on boulders flying off of ramps in the construction of physically accurate mountain-sized Rube Goldberg devices.

Personally, I like [DF] because after climbing the damned learning cliff, I'm too elitist to consider not liking it.

I wonder how many people decided their future careers based on DF.

Breaking News!
The worldwide soap, potash, and fish dissection industries are at an all time low, for reasons currently unknown.
Meanwhile, magma sales are at an all time high...

I actually built a replica of my house in DF to see how well it went. It lasted a few years, but I ran out of floorspace for beds so I began making people sleep in the garage. Fun times.
