Bulk discount? I mean, that is like 1667 each. Or about 1/6 off full price.

Cryptfiend is the other guy with good cashflow but nobody sucker punched him for trying to make a buck.

Except Natalia has been sitting on his ass for a while now.

Extortions have a 3 or 4 in 20 (15-20%) success rate
-start rolling a d20 and see how often you succeed

As Terenos said, everyone has seen some sort of a kick in the balls lately. The setup of the functions in the game are such that conditions cause a lot of events. Henchmen are basically triggered by plots or conditions (Notoriety and/or Cash, minion count, etc)

thanks for the numbers. Though you neglected to mention that natalia shields hasn't swiped 6 grand worth out of nowhere from his operation, they have been escalating and she is very much announcing her intentions. Im trying to keep a low profile, but if this fingers guy (who i tried to talk to but was ignored) knows about me, and that i am keeping my assets in easily steal-able 100 dollar bills or something, and i even made a point to extort from places far away, then why has nobody else been getting shafted for most of their treasury. Even if we assume fingers has a crystal ball or something, I'd at least like to steal from the other players myself, this money has to go somewhere and i really wanted to hire the thief, the others are not all better defended than me, and keep a much higher profile. i see it as some way to target me that would seem reasonable if nobody thought it through, and the impact was out of proportion and out of nowhere, so i liken it to a cheap shot, Seems like the people out to make a name for themselves should draw more attention.

Some of us get it, others don't. Check out peoples turns. I have no cash flow pretty much, others get hit hard in others ways.

If your that angry about it, just attempt to steal from other players, I assume by your most recent post that you think another player used Fingers to steal from you?

It is assumed that you're keeping your cash in an easily guarded room within your organization. and not in say, a bank. Are you storing it in a bank? Are you freely announcing your funds to the authorities? -DO- tell me, because if so.. then I have an entire other avenue of cruel and unusual things I can do. If all your funds are insured, then I would be happy to have investigators pry into your business for weeks.

You are evil. As such you will not keep your cash where anyone from the outside can easily reach it, but it would be easy to hand. Fingers is an accomplished thief-type henchman. Your guard roll was defeated by something happening. So I spun it into Fingers noticing your organization was almost entirely offense, and comparatively no defense. He rolled very highly on the amount he stole from you. (You'd be surprised what you can fit in say, a dufflebag or suitcase, if the bills are large enough). Let us recap. ONE Guard, easily dispatched. No defenses. And a bunch of cash sitting around. Not only that, Your notoriety is high enough that you can and will attract this sort of attention. At the very least, others keep more than 2 minions in their base during the turn.

I'm not dumping on you, or anyone. In some ways, the events I have happen curtail growth, or open new avenues of thought. This is a good thing. I want people exploring new paths if the path they are on becomes too difficult. Or find some way to offset the difficulty. But as I believe I've said (Or cyber said) we're not holding anyone's hand here.

But there are things you can do. Any negative event can be planned for. Its foolish to assume something is safe simply because I haven't taken a shot at destroying it.

You should probably invest in a guard.  I already have one and am bolstering my security force with those spider drones.

EDIT-  Do plotting minions contribute to defense?  Can a guard plot (with another minion- he doesn't have it as an option by default) and confer the same benefit as guarding?

On a semi-related note- you mentioned his lair being in a casino as a security risk.  How much affect does our lair choice have on what events happen to us?

i did attempt to steal from other players. It was the very first thing i attempted to do i think. I tried to raid the guy on the yacht. Some of us get it, others dont, check out peoples turns LOL hypocrite. if you're gonna be passive aggressive at least know what you are talking about, because I personally dont enjoy getting people back in wasteful exchanges like these, but you make it so very easy.

For the record, i dont think another player sent fingers to steal from me, because i was expressly forbidden to steal from other players when i tried to do so myself. I wanted to HIRE him myself so that i could steal from other players. But the Gm's seem to have forgotten about that part because my attempt to make contact with the guy didnt pan out into anything at all.

Yes I'd love to outline my defences for my cash stores. the only reason i didnt is because i didnt think it would make a difference, since my previous detailed descriptions of how i would extort seemed to have no noticable effect on the outcome. Some even became attempts to steal petty cash in one case i think. I'd like to keep my money in small loose bills, 50% of which are in rolled up dollar coins since they are really heavy. I'd like each 2000$ buried in a safe indoors, starting with the basement, deep enough to take 8 hours to dig to. i'll keep 1000$ in walking around money on me personally and later once i have a significant amount of money again i'll start washing the money into the casino, since its a casino and that sort of thing should be easy.

You probably had a really crappy encounter roll with him.

Think of it this way:  You're a freelance thief, and a really rich guy asks you to join him to steal from others for him.  Sure, you could do that, and get a cut of what you steal... but the rich guy's money is poorly defended.  Why not take his money and get 100%?  You just got shafted in rolls.

All minions within the base contribute in a very small way to defense at a given time. Only with Guards(Read: minions doing the Guarding task) can you have an active defense. Otherwise its just your minions about their daily lives who might -possibly- stumble upon something happening. Like a man stealing funds, or a homeless guy in the break room eating all the sandwiches.
Lair choice has some impact but again, very small. But for the most part its negligible. For example, A casino has a lot of foot traffic, which may reduce the effectiveness at keeping out X specific person, but they are designed in a cunning way which may prevent actual penetration of the nefarious organization within.
You, are in a small mountain compound. This could be hard to get to simply due to terrain. Nevyn is on a boat, which will make active targeting slightly difficult provided he keeps moving.

As an aside, we should be approaching the time when other base locations may start to become available. These, you will be able to specifically engineer for a positive bonus. An underground base is not going to get much regular foot traffic.

And Hastur, you made this attempt on the first turn. The very first turn, and you didn't mean it as a theft, you meant it as a "I'm taking him OUT."  Cmon. Turn one sniping in a game where by default, you're trying to keep everyone from knowing what you're up to from the get go? Please. I'm sayin it here: To find someone, is a successful Plotting roll, and you have to specify yer looking for them. And its gonna be hard usually.

Also.. Why would anyone talk to the guy they just robbed? Cmon, (most)Henchmen aren't stupid.

I'll give 2k for the assisted aiming. I don't have enough for another 2k for the ESDs, but I can give you 1.5k and 20 Resources, which can be traded for 1K.

he's missing out because i have a great oppotunity for him, so he must be a stupid one? its not like i want to meet him in person, he left a calling card for crying out loud.

Also i am so plotting that now that i know how its done. Are thugs worse than regulars for plotting purposes? is any minion better at plotting?

Oh and i was taking that guy out for the money, he had to most so i went after him. i was in it for the money lol

Out of curiosity, you said you did this game before- how many turns did it last?  Just curious how far along we are.

I was running it over msn with a few people (Labs included), to get a feel for how the mechanics would work out just one on one. The farthest player got ..23 weeks in I believe. And he was a fair bit ahead of you folks. But the dice had a bit more favor for him.

And Hastur, I am more than willing to allow that..arrangement of your cash, But keep in mind that that doesnt really lend itself to -ease of use- , and whos to say a few hundred wont go missing as your minions raid petty cash?
But if you wanted say, a vault. That could be arranged, and would likely thwart some thieves.

raid petty cash? thats in my pocket? if somebodys gonna hold me up for 1000 dollars in my pocket in my own casino they are better off raiding the teller.

If it takes 8 hours to dig up my money for one man, i dont think thats going to be a problem since we operate on one day schedules

Also i am so plotting that now that i know how its done. Are thugs worse than regulars for plotting purposes? is any minion better at plotting?
