SO i have to say chemistry defensive? for example

how do i know what i already have researched? Combat sedatives, is that offensive or support?

Or you could simply say "x number of researchers work on chemistry". You don't have to say whether it's offensive, defensive or support. If you don't, you're results will be a bit randomized between the three. Some people (myself, for instance), don't mind randomization, or even want a bit of it (again...me). As for researching 'combat sedatives'...any sedative could be used in combat...unless you mean weaponized sedatives, in which case that would be offensive

Instead of worrying about what you have already researched, think about what type of stuff you want to unlock. Is it lasers and force-fields? Drones of some sort? Chemicals to use against enemies? Think of those sorts of questions, find the general field that fits, and go with that. Then think about if it fits into Defensive, Offensive, or support categories, and go with whichever one it fits. If you don't know what category it would fit into, don't specify. But DO specify a general field. Always.

Personally, I am defensive in a lot of the games I play, so going with physics, defense is a no brainer for me.
