Singed has a counter?

The only one I can remotely think of is Ashe. (And the usual, kill him early on and deny him farm shtick)

I think Vayne and Corki can counter Singed too, as long as they know how to kite. Possibly Nidalee too.

One of the common mistakes against Singed is to waste some of your skills on him and be on cooldowns when his team follows. Moving out of his way and autoattacking him until his teammates show up is probably the way to go.

It's just terrible when it's the go-to build for anything that auto-attacks. No creativity whatsoever.

It's also ridiculously expensive.

And if you're going to criticize creativity then criticize Triforce.

Here is what I've learned about Singed from playing him and watching Dyrus

Singed is actually strongest in the early/mid game.  Towards the end he becomes pretty useless compared to other tanks.

Counters:
Top lane:
Cho - Singed doesn't have the damage to harass him out of lane, and a farmed Cho is far more useful than a farmed Singed
Morde- Same as above
Really any champ who can clear a minion wave can lane against Singed.  Just focus on farming instead of ganking and you'll outpace his utility late game.

Other lanes:
Vayne - Very high chasing ability combined with true damage
Kog - The definitive anti-tank carry.  Also has a slow
Anivia - Flash is a bad spell on Singed and he relies a lot on his mobility to survive so bird's wall really devastates him
Malzahar - Percent damage will always do damage in percentages
Most melee champs with an on-hit slow (Xin, GP) can also kill Singed provided that they can get in a first hit, especially early game before he starts building tanky

Items:
BANSHEE'S VEIL - This is the end-all counter to Singed.  His poison damage is useless once you get a negatron and the passive negates his fling.  This is a core item for most squishes anyway.  The tank is already insured against Singed because he already builds mr and it would be counter-productive for Singed to fling the tank to his team.

The important thing to understand is that Singed trades a lot of his damage/utility for survivability.  He doesn't have huge fight changing moves like Cho or Amumu, so it doesn't matter if he survives. 
Don't waste cc on Singed in fights.  He has a lot of cc reduction and it would be much more effective at stopping damage if used on their ad and ap carries. 
Positioning is important (as always).  Try to have your squishiest champ one fling length behind your tank.  They shouldn't be entering the fight until the tank initiates anyway.
Outside of the early game (pre level 6) don't focus too much attention on ganking him unless he's doing something really stupid (and I mean really stupid, not just normal Singed trolling).  Ganking mid and bot are far more lucrative prospects for your jungler and a farmed Singed isn't a holy terror like a farmed Morde or a farmed Nasus.  He's also dead if you catch him with his ult/ghost down.
Early game his only survivability comes from his mobility and he has no cc reduction.

I admit this wouldn't be in my usual build, but I had loads of gold and just felt like it.
Anyway it's good to be on the other side of the morons once in a while. If that Cho were any good, I wouldn't have had such a great farm.

I'd be up for some pushing, seeing as i am some 100 elo short and i really don't want to deal with the hellhole of human contact that is ranked X)

Also i really don't buy Phreak saying that Talon has terrible laning, so far that seems to be his best part aside from raping a single target in teamfights :/

Well it really depends. You're usally fine with a solo lane.
Any ranged character will fear you as soon as you hit level 3 and have your harassing combo.

You'd probably lose against most other melee champions, because once you're done with your combo, your enemy should be fleeing just like you, since you're not really an autoattack champion. If he turns to fight, things might get ugly...

I had to play him in duo lane a couple of times. It's horrible.

It should also be mentioned that he's a great lasthitter, so your main concern is lane dominance in earlygame.
