I usually set up individual barracks for my squads where I assign squad sleeping and personal equipment. With normal bedrooms I just assign the bedroom and let people take them as they arrive. My military dwarves dont sleep in their assigned barracks though. They walk up three flights of stairs to sleep in a bedroom. Any Idea how to fix this so they actually sleep in their squad assigned barracks?

It's in the schedule screen, "sleep in room at will".  Change this.

Actually you probably would be better with them having nice rooms... if one of your legendary steel-wielding dwarves ever tantrums without you preparing for it, you're in for some fun.

I've also seen my military be rather unhappy, and giving them bedrooms cured this.  Currently, my squad of 10 bismuth bronze speardwarves are the only ones with actual bedrooms.  Everyone else goes to the dorms.
