Twisted Tower - Castlevania meets Diablo
« on: May 11, 2011, 03:51:57 pm »

I found this on pixelprospector.com and thought that this game needs much more attention, and hopefully that will speed up progress so I can play it sooner  :P I've always wished there was a platforming roguelike and this seems to be the closest thing I have seen plus the art and animation is gorgeous. I'm hoping that others will be as impressed as I am with this project. If anyone knows of anything similar out there I am open to suggestions, thanks!

Why would an adbot post on a game that's still in mid development?

If this was free it would be great! It would be a rather well done, albiet barely touched, game in the freeware market.

Since I am sure they are cashing in on the platforming indie craze... It is derivative. Especially since "Castlevania meets diablo" was done... with Castlevania meeting diablo.

My goodness... this makes me want to play mystical ninja (I think that was the name.) and that game was really really slow.

Wow. What's with all the negativity? Yes, I did register just to post about this game. I have been reading these forums for a little less than a year but have never registered, is that a crime? I am interested in this game and thought the community here might be into it as well. I know it's still in development but didn't realize that was taboo either. Terraria isn't released...? Anyway, sorry to offend, but to anyone else (who may be less sensitive), I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts. Also, to the posters who are claiming this is a tired an unoriginal game, I would be interested in other similar games, thanks!

The problem Joey is if you register JUST to post a game, then it makes you seem like a Spammer or someone who advertises games.

You really should have expected such even from the most mellow of forums. (and this is one of the most mellow ones)

Well if you go back far enough almost every other game was a platformer. Though if you want me to get even CLOSER to this formula, Maplestory hits it dead on.

... If you've been reading the forums for a year, you should have noticed by now that every time someone signs up just to promote a game (which happens quite often, there's been 4 of these threads in the last two days), people complain about it.

Anyway, it looks interesting, though I think I had enough of diablo from diablo.

Wow. What's with all the negativity?

We've had an influx of people registering just to advertise games the last few days. It seems like a pet-peeve of this forum to begin with, and each has been met with most vitriol than the last. This looks to me like a actual topic about a cool looking game that people pounced on just because it's a first-post and it's been happening a lot lately. As for the topic at hand:

Is this going to be freeware? It looks fun, but I don't see myself paying for a game like this.

As I understand it is going to be free and it is still very early in development so I imagine there will be a lot added before release. This game looks interesting to me because I have played most all the Metroid-vania games I could find but think that the genre would have more depth if more roguelike elements were added. I'm thinking a more dungeon crawly SotN or Aria of Sorrow. Actually I am interested in any type of platform/action/roguelike/rpg. Something like Dungeons of Fayte or Epic Dungeon with deeper gameplay. If someone could make a Zeldalike dungeon crawler with roguelike elements that would be heaven :)

But yes I liked Maplestory but this seems a little less linear. I like the randomness!

Also, I have nothing to so with the game I just came across it thought I would share :)

To me it is almost exactly the opposite (even if there is a game that is ALREADY this... done well)

For a good metroidvania game you want solid gameplay elements. You don't want to tootsyfoot your way around it through randomised blah.

Which is something people are forgetting about "Random". Random is random. Unless designed VERY well random can only randomly fall into good design.

Random isn't bad but lately it has been done at the cost of strong gameplay with few exceptions thrown about. Heck even Splunky had to unrandomise.

I meant the developers not the players :P

As in, if your going to go random then doing it right is even harder then just designing it yourself unless your trying to fool the playerbase.

I would think that someone who has been reading these forums for a while would know the general dislike of regersting an account just to post a game. That behing said the game does look cool. Do you aim your bow with the mouse?

I, for one, have a minor hardon for roguelike elements, so bugger the design difficulties :P

The videos look pretty interesting. If this is free, I'm definitely there. The game also looks playable in deliciously bitesized chunks, and have bats that hide stabby things in their wings and then do this spinning divebomb thing. The bats are awesome, at least.

Any eta on alpha/beta/etc, OP?

E: Also, the protagonist is somehow terribly amusing to me.

Well like I said I've been reading the forums for awhile and now I'm registered and can post about whatever I want so back off  :P

As far as I know you aim with moving the dpad up or down. At least that's what it looked liked to be from the contoller config that I saw in a gameplay vid. About ETA, the progress bar was around 25% or so, so it could be a little while but a beta test may come sooner. Again, I have nothing to do with this game and a big reason why I wanted to bring it up here was that maybe if there was enough interest the creator might speed up progress if he knew there was support.
