So, immortality huh?
« on: May 10, 2011, 05:04:56 pm »

"The general idea is that by learning certain secrets, a historical figure in world gen gains various traits -- in the example it is immortality"

I want to see if they're really immortal, when i stab their head out!

No, no, no...

He won't die of OLD AGE, anything else is fair game, though.

Imagine retiring a badass dwarf in blue armor with a cape in a town for a thousand years, and him still being able to kick everyone else to the curb. That is, unless the immortality also makes you physically weak and reliant on the undead or something.

As I see it, the secret will give you infinite lifespan and necromancy powers.

Imagine one of your dwarves having that in a fortress. Instant awesome.

"I am Logem Mortalcrafts the Undying Scourge, legendary macedwarf and necromancer ! Slayer of innumerable ! For four hundred years I have watched over this fortress, slaying all who rose against me and raising their mortal shell as mere tools for my will to be unleashed upon the likes on you ! And this I say to you, goblins, as I have said to countless ones before you, and each time my words were true : YOU ! SHALL ! NOT ! PASS !"

I already living the necrodream!
though it's not cut out as you place it my necromantic spells usually lead to hostile to every thing. Zombies they usually cause more loyalty crusades than unholy ones though once I figure out how to get race changing to work with out having to resave I can pitch an idea to deon on a Necromancer fort.

Well, I didn't got how immortal will they be, if it's only for old age deaths, not funny...we can still get an adventurer and make him bleed to death. And even if he is able to survive without a head... he cannot survive a massive cave in!

There is a difference between eternal youth and eternal life.
The latter making you weaker the longer you live.

We know, but ATM old age body degradation is not implemented in DF, and toady said it just removed the max_age tag, so for now it's pretty much eternal youth.

*Not made by me*
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Also; immortal = never die of age, invincible = never die period :P

Edit on this^: Better phrased would be "immortal = can never die, but can be killed, invincible = can die, can never be killed".

I would really like to be a liche. That would be quite spectacular, especially in adventure mode.

You could also see it the other way, one of the miners/soldiers decides to ascend to lichdom, and becomes immortal and will be reborn as long as his phylli.. How do you spell it? you probally know what i mean, is standing in the fort. They would probally worship the lich miner, and i would to.
