I want to have an adventurer that doesn't die of old age. Perhaps  retire it near my fort...if I can ever actually get the fort to work that is (Curse you biomes!).

That way, something...awesome will happen.

In my opinion, an immortal should still be able to get their limbs hacked off, but no matter how much blood they lose, they never feel pain, and they never, ever die.

This would make for some hilarious ends. The only way to stop an immortal foe would be do take off all of his limbs. Then you could hang his still-talking head on the wall as a decoration.

FUN.

I believe immortals should not die of old age, disease, or bleeding out, but can die of a chop to the head and it flies apart. Other than that, bring out the death gods!

It's either immortal (can't die), or not. I would assume every part is also immortal and such person would know how to reattach an arm... and legs... and head, while you're at it.

But then you could make your adventurer immortal and dominate the world, which I don't think it's what toady one wants. We need more info on this. On the speculation side: It would be fun to go head on against a dragon and wrestle it to death...

Yeah, elves and gobboes seem to have eternal life.

Until a drunken adventurer waltzes along and caves their skulls in. :P

There is a difference between eternal youth and eternal life.
The latter making you weaker the longer you live.

We know, but ATM old age body degradation is not implemented in DF, and toady said it just removed the max_age tag, so for now it's pretty much eternal youth.
Actually it partially is. Remember the stat rust? Right. Once your dwarf learns everything, he has nothing to raise his attributes with, so he will become weaker and clumsier with time.

No, no, no...

He won't die of OLD AGE, anything else is fair game, though.

No, they can only be killed by another immortal, and that immortal must remove their heads from their bodies.

I really hope that adventurers can learn these secrets.

Though on the other hand recalling the various atrocities visited on the world by normal adventurers...

I still hope we can.

It would be rather fun to be a mortal adventurer who sought to kill all immortals. I AM URIST MCIMMORTALSLAYER, SLAYER OF IMMORTALS. FEAR MY BEARD.
