I've never watched it and probably never will. Not because of some prejudice of some sort, I simply don't care enough to switch on my TV for that.

I have to say, EuroVision is a good way of determining political blocs within Europe.

Wait, wait...so you mean there's a European cultural event that even Americans can laugh at with disdain and scorn? Oh, this is delicious.

I watch it for the so-bad-it's-good factor. Also, our singer is Polish. YAY POLITICAL BONUS!
I still think we should send this guy.

Screw Eurovision. Why? Because I'm flying through Dusseldorf with an overnight layover tomorrow night. I was looking at hotels back in winter and like, why the fuck is every single youth hostel and hotel booked to the max that night? Guess I'm sleeping in the airport. Thanks a lot, Eurovision.

Please America, I heard it's full of terrorists, and that ben Laden second coming is scheduled for the final. Just send a cruise missile on the compound where it take place. Nobody will mind. You know you want it.

A concerned European.

Well, there's "So bad it's good", and then there's "So bad I'd rather rip my own face off than watch another minute of this".

I don't mind admitting I've always enjoyed it. Sure, it's not 'high culture' (whatever that is), but it's perfectly harmless. Stop taking it so seriously ;D. I just think it's pretty cool that people all across Europe can watch and participate in something at the same time (particularly, that ISN'T sport for a change).

Or war.

I haven't watched it the last couple of years to be honest, but it does hold some morbid fascination. Personally I think it was even better before they lifted the rule about every song having to be in that country's official language(s). Norway won one year with a "song" that consisted of ten seconds of vocals and four minutes of humming and violin. That was a big controversy in those days. In 1980 was this thing. Now it's just autotune pop.

EDT: I guess 1980 was one of those years.
