Space Pirates and Zombies
« on: May 09, 2011, 03:10:36 pm »

Just got this game off of Impulse as a Beta pre-order special for $15, and my first impressions are Star Control II, mixed in with strategy elements.

I am very impressed by it, and look forward getting to new technology and upgrading my mothership and weapons, and new ships hulls.  Ship hulls can all be customized.

Very impressive for a two man team who wanted to build a game they wanted to play!  Reminds me of the golden age of pc games when big publishers like EA weren't involved.

I am sensing a renaissance in the Game industry as the publishers just rehash old formulas that make dollar sense, and are not willing to take risk like indies.

Game Features/Story
The whole premise is that the exploration of the galaxy has been fueled by a new element nicknamed "Rez".  Warp gates enabled the bridging of the gap between systems, and even more concentrations of "Rez" is centered near the galactic core.  You are in control of a Mothership which contains pirates in search of these rich "Rez" deposits at the core.

The Mothership starts with a few hangars and only the ability to build one hull type.  Eventually through the story line progression, you can upgrade the Mothership, and your Hulls and the accompanying components like Shield, Lasers, Engines, etc...

You can collect Rez by mining, and Data modules by destroying other ships.  You get research levels by filling up on the data modules that drop from destroyed ships.  You can also get new hull designs by Plans that are dropped by destroyed ships as well.

You also have to be mindful of your crew level, called "Goons".  The more you have the faster repairs happen, and you can even trade crew in to various NPC stations.  One of many attention to details the devs have implemented is how you pick up extra crew.  When ships are destroyed sometimes an escape pod is ejected and you can pick up the pilot.  Then there is a chance he will agree to a life of swabbing decks, or get ushered out the air lock, which is thoughtfully rendered in game.

Anyways here is the link, and for $15 you can't go wrong.

Spaaaamboooot.

As long as people are clinging to "ha ha lol pirates and zombies carl sagan bacon epic bacon" there will never be a gaming renaissance.

He's not a spambot, he's an adperson.

And bacon is good, Cthulhu.

Yeah I get it, I am a new account and immediately get labeled as a spambot/adperson/ laying it on thick? lol

Plenty of other commercial releases have been posted here, many similar to this type of game. Yet u "old school" bay 12 forum guys want to jump on the "spammer" bandwagon.

Trust me this game will not disappoint even though it is still in Beta.  I thought the same thing thing as soon as I saw Space Pirates and Zombies in one sentence, and I have yet to see any zombies in the game.  However, once I read the website and saw the Lazy Brit review WTF is SPAZ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IxJTul3AEAE of an early Alpha build I was sold.

But whatever, each to their own....

If this is the first thing you post, then yeah, you get labeled. Try to intergrate before you post games.

Not to mention being hostile towards the community you're trying to advertise to generally doesn't work.

What do you know about Dwarf Fortress, anyways?

See these comments put me on the defensive.  Where exactly was I hostile?

I would categorize the response of you forum losers (I mean just because I don't post 12 post a day) as hostile.

Yeah I can understand all the labels and teaming up because I put an affiliate link. LOL

A simple "I'm sorry I didn't mean to seem hostile, I just didn't like being called a spambot." would have chilled the whole situation... Oh well LET TEH BATTLEZ BEGIN! *sits back and sips ICE COLD COKE*

Back on subject: Update the OP with some game features?

Flailing people to death with empty socks, though, that takes a lot of effort. Less so if the sock's made out of something interesting, but generally quite difficult.

I played a small tech engine preview demo that the creators released a few months back and I was impressed. If I wasn't dead broke I would pre-order this as well. It's actually quite a bit of fun.

Dutifully noted, and I apologize to everyone.  Let me know if you guys would like some screen shots?  I would be happy to provide them once I play the game some more.  :)

No, you see; It's more of a bay12 Other Games meme (which someone should make a comic of, as an angry dwarf smacking an elf trying to sell shoes comes to mind). This is like the very corner of the forums where we talk about other games -we- play. I personally don't care about people advertising games, but there are a lot of angry dorfs around that would smack a girl trying to sell them delicious cookies right on the face, just for trying to sell them cookies at their doorstep.

So now we're losers, huh?  I am buying your game even less than I was buying it a few minutes ago.

I think Soulwynd wins.

There's a reason your title is escaped lunatic btw. The amount of effort you have to put out, to be considered part of the community around here, and by that I mean get a title so you can blend in, is like 10 posts.

So chalk this up to a learning experience, when you next go asking Google who else has a huge forum you can post about this game on.

To be honest, if some parachuting advertisers just identified themselves as such in their OP, people probably wouldn't care. Developers do it here all the time.

Well, spambot or not, I tried the demo and it's a pretty cool little game actually. That said, it feels more like $8 than $15. The demo is pretty big and covers lots of stuff, I'll give them that.
