Second year early spring Elves raid!?!?
« on: May 09, 2011, 10:25:34 am »

So I was just moving along normally in my fort nothing special so far then first caravan gone moving along then immediately at the start of spring there is an enormous Elf ambush that killed most of my ragtag militia of Miners and Woodcutters and then retreat after one dies. Is this common and how can i replicate it because it is kind of fun to have attackers who can go toe to toe with my dwarves?

Is your civ at war with the elves? Wars happen in worldgen and if you happen to stop history when there's a war going on then you get attacks instead of caravans from that race.

Congrats, Psieye. This is the first time I've seen a derailed thread get put back on the rails.

Heh turns out thats the case apparently Goblins are also extinct and there are only 50 Kobolds left in the world. The war goes well though i cant wait for the sieges.

Elf sieges are non-events, other then that they bring lots of critters to ride.  (Wood/cloth armor tends to fare poorly against copper / bronze / iron.  They tend to die pretty quick.)

I do prefer worlds where my dwarf civ is at war with the elves, because it does at least bring a little bit of fun to the world.

You never just start war with the elves yourself?...

They never attack i have played a fort where every year the elves would come in the spring and i would butcher them put the survivors caught in iron cage traps into the magma sea where they will live forever burning leaving one alive to return home and tell the people there what happened to his comrades and they come back next year to repeat the process again and again.

Elf sieges are non-events, other then that they bring lots of critters to rideelves to imprison in the combat training slaughterhouse.

Fixed that for you.

I generated a world, found the best spot I could find, was about to abandon it because there's no steel on the map...but then I noticed it had war with the elves, sand, clay, handy magma, and candy.

They had me at "war with the elves".

Figured out how to make elves be always at war with the Dwarves just give either one the babysnatcher trait the way I did it was make elves babysnatchers and had Dwarves be perfectly fine with butchering, eating and making things out of elves now they are constantly at war it's kind of beautiful seeing siege of bear riding elf bowmen fight a squad of dwarves decked out head to toe in steel wielding axes and crossbows.

Fixed in the Genesis mod. Got Ironwood natural iron-like which the Sylvans enchant into Spellwood.

If you give the dwarves the babysnatcher tag, will you then get more interesting immigrants? Like elves, humans and goblins who think that they are dwarves, because they've been abducted as children and then been submitted to years of brainwashing?

No, migrants are randomly generated and are not taken from the parent civ.

I've had this with super wood harvesting embarks :D

I get a message saying along the lines of: the elves are attacking for my destruction of nature. What made me laugh as the 20 elven archers spawned in the corner of my map, is these valiant defenders of nature went straight to my pastures and butchered all my livestock :( Hypocrites :P
