Well, I for one have been playing it Single Player, since I was curious what it was about.  TF2 plus Parkour with dress up dolls?  Sounds like a good formula for a game.

I'm not disappointed per se, but I'm not exactly impressed.  I appreciate them making "classes" that can be easily switched between, and do differentiate players without necessarily playing any different.

Cosmetic upgrades as earned rewards is utterly fucking pointless and is a standard I hope the industry as a whole abandons in short order.

The free-running shenanigans aren't flawless, but it is pretty cool.  Any inherent problem with the design mostly comes down to actually learning how to use it - it's not a magic button.  The game is slightly hampered in PC format because the standard FPS keys don't all like to work at the same time (Shift + W + A or X is the biggest hole), but that's not exactly the developers' fault.

There's about three guns out of twenty that are actually useful (the "sniper" rifle doesn't appear to do damage at all), and all the weapons exclusive to the Heavy body are unlocked long after the Heavy itself.

The AI Bots in singleplayer are just plain unfair.  I routinely died to a single bullet in many engagements, no matter how impossible it is for me to replicate on them.  And in a game that relies on fast, accurate movement, AI can beat the pants off a player who doesn't really know the game.  I imagine multiplayer is easier, since humans are possible to trip up.

All in all, it's not a bad game, and I'd recommend it to anyone who likes TF2 but is sick of actually playing TF2.  I don't know if I'll be playing it beyond the weekend though, $25 is a bit hard to justify when it feels like the game just isn't really complete.

One think that strikes me its the headshot damage. You can suck up a whole mag in your body but still can die of a single headshot. That combined with the lag and messed up hitboxes makes engagements a huge lottery.

Personally, the only flaw I found with the game was the fact that offensive objectives are universally impossible to complete.
I loved the game, bought it, played it for a week straight non-stop with a friend of mine over XBL. It was amazing. But...you'd get an objective like "Repair the Controls" or "Bring the Fuel to the Hangar" or something and then spend the next 15 minutes reenacting D-Day. Except the difference is that you don't win D-Day because you can't have overwhelming numbers unless you get lucky and the opposing team lags out.

So eventually I got sick of it.

That is pretty much my experience(except on the PC).  I gave up on it when I found I could get top score pretty much everytime simply by tossing revive syringes at everything in site even though my aim wasn't very good.  The general feel of it didn't appeal to me much either.

Maybe I just like Brink because I have low expectations and I don't play online unless I'm playing with friends, none of which have the game.
I used to be able to destroy the AI, but then I stopped playing because I got some fuckhueg pack of games from steam and played them for a long time.

I tried it free, as many people have. I stopped after this: I put four bullets directly into an unarmored man's head. He turned around and killed me with one or two shots.
Before that, I was doing some running around and shooting, which are supposed to be 2 of the main 3 points of the game. Neither seemed smooth or enjoyable. The only obstacle I could easily get on top of/over was a ten-foot wall.   ?
Most enemies took between 4 shots and a full clip to kill; it took me 3 shots or so to be downed; after that, I wait for a medic to come and toss me a syringe so I can get myself back up.
I played on normal, by the way, on single and multiplayer.
As for the other main point, objectives: I couldn't find any. I just followed my teammates around and shot some people. I blew a wall up when it told me to. There was also a hostage at some point during single player, but the AI wouldn't move him anywhere.

This is simply a sad game. It fails to deliver where it was supposed to be revolutionary. Nothing about gameplay was fun for me. The cross between Mirror's Edge and Battlefront game styles that I made out was definitely not this. It lasted no more than 40 minutes fully intact on my system.

I'm glad some people like it, though. It's certainly not all bad! :)
I'm also glad they put it out for free: I had no plans to ever get it before I played it. Now I would buy it for $2 or so.

I found the objectives (click your mousewheel / middle mouse button), but they didn't seem to do anything in the 30 minutes I gave it before uninstalling. The last few minutes consisted of standing around and repeatedly shooting the same guys who kept coming back to get shot, while some AIs yelled "protect the agent!" and others yelled "Kill the agent!" If it wasn't for noticing the objectives and the rest of my team not shooting the agent, I might have shot him.

As it is, it looked rather boring, and I didn't much like the "We have a dozen guns for variety, all of which are slightly different in no discernibly interesting way" thing. I didn't enjoy "earn XP while playing and spend it to unlock things" all that much when I played Black Ops, and here it was again.

I guess I am lucky that it seems to be not that good, cause I can't even download it for some reason, all that happens when I click on the 'click here' link is I get redirected back to it's page.

It should be listed in your (Steam) library, greyed out as an uninstalled game would be; where its "play" button would be it says "install". If you've got spare time and bandwidth, you might want to try it. If you lack an excess, I'd not recommend it.

Brink is Bethesda and Splash-Damage's new FPS game,

Hah! I knew it was going to be a disappointment. See, I turn off any hope I have for games made by Bethesda nowadays. It's sad but true.

I think Beth is just the publisher as far as I understand.  Splash Damage is the developer.

All in all, it's not a bad game, and I'd recommend it to anyone who likes TF2 but is sick of actually playing TF2.  I don't know if I'll be playing it beyond the weekend though, $25 is a bit hard to justify when it feels like the game just isn't really complete.

I went ahead and bought it, since I can see myself having a lot more fun with the game, and I'm certainly not done with it.  It's become more enjoyable as I've figured out how everything works.

For one thing, when you're playing single-player, and the game deserves props for actually giving some attention to single-player, the AI is trying to improve your game experience more than it's actually trying to win.  The enemy team always seems a lot more competent than your own, but they can still fold.  Meanwhile, the friendly AI expects you to always be the mission-critical class or player, and does a reasonable job of protecting you - if you try to hang back or run off sideways and let the AI figure it out, it'll flounder around a lot worse than the enemy AI does at exactly the same tasks.

I was originally miffed at the "selection" of weapons that are all functionally similar or useless, but as I've experimented, they are similar yes but not identical.  Each weapon has it's own distinct character that stats don't really convey, and you come to pick some that subjectively feel better to you, even though they all work in essentially the same fashion.  The last game I played with that dynamic - a "realistic" spread of guns that better serve to be picked by preference and feel than absolute advantage - was Stalker, and it's not a bad design.  I have two characters I switch between, and they use different stock weapons because I like the variety and strategy, beyond experimenting almost every match.  Some weapons do benefit from mods so much as to be necessary, but almost all of the guns and useful mods can be unlocked in a couple hours of single-player, and none of the locked guns are game-changing.

Of course, some weapons are just plain useless - the grenade launchers come to mind.  Only the Soldier's special Molotovs are really useful because they blow up on contact.  As much emphasis as the game places on the tactics of grenades, it makes it equally easy for players to see grenades coming and get out of the way (and the AI is virtually immune to them).  The shotguns try to break from gaming norms, but they wind up not really being useful at any range do to the funkiness with hitboxes and health differences.  And melee has such a small hit range as to be pointless, not to mention you can't see anything for a second.

I'm still and always will be miffed about having to earn cosmetic effects, in a game that trumpets being able to define your character's looks (for what little good it does), but pointless customization of the player's image is a great enough goal in game design that I can pardon a lot for it.  And like the weapons, a couple days of on and off single-player by an FPS chump like me unlocked almost everything.  And since everything is common to all characters, there's no backfilling.  Weirdly, I kinda dislike the character design aspect because it kinda kills any sense of immersion the game tried for (to the small extent that it does or needs to), because as cool as it is seeing different player looks, which really is great if you play with the same people so you recognize each other, it really reinforces the fact that you're two teams of immortals punting over objectives, because you keep killing the exact same unique dudes.

I both dislike and respect the character advancement system.  Considering how easy it is to criticize what is ultimately a team deathmatch-maker FPS for allowing players to be straight-up better than each other by just playing longer, it's actually kinda bold that they stuck with the design.  Like the classes themselves, the character advancement feels like it differentiates and specializes how you want to play and what you're best at, without fundamentally changing the game or making one player or another unbeatable in a given situation.  They're all minor enough changes that they can't unbalance gameplay, but you can still feel them.  It's a good dynamic, especially since even my casual amount of gaming in one weekend has earned me more experience on two characters than I know that to do with.

I guess what I'm saying is, I got my money's worth, and if you're into team-based shooters and want to play something besides TF2, it's worth a shot.  I think the game has some balls just for trying to compete with TF2, especially since you get a hat for buying it (...that's pretty brilliant actually).  They also deserve some props for making the game free to play temporarily, to promote their first DLC which is free.  I can't tell you how refreshing it is to see a game that gives you stuff without so much as mentioning "microtransations", and this is Bethesda we're talking about.
