Meh, no appreciable difference, still get 10-20 FPS when playing solo, 20-30 when online. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

silfur, do you have all the options turned off? have you tried running at a lower resolution? I'm sure you have tried all of these things, I'm just trying to help and I can't figure out why it's not working for you.

I did try, I even downloaded a small program to alter graphics settings not possible to alter in the game (primarily removing shadows) but I can't go above 30 FPS whatever I do. The game doesn't seem to utilize the graphics card to its fullest, though. I'm using ATI tray tools to monitor GPU activity, and it never goes above 30-40% for some reason. It could be that the output it plots is wrong, but I doubt it.

It might be that my CPU is bottlenecking for some reason, seeing as the game runs slower in single player, when it has to run all AI players as well.

Gah, this is maddening, why won't the game use my graphics card properly! It's using it to 100% in the menu, of all places, to render my character, and then when actually in-game it just stops working properly. Look at this graph, it should speak for itself, I think.

After the patch it's running a lot better for me, and I have had a few mostly lag free games too, looking forward to further patches to help just that little bit extra.

I'm really enjoying Brink though, I don't understand how it scored so low on IGN, but then again I am quite new to online shooters so it's a new experience for me anyway.

yeah the patch was a huge improvement and I am also really enjoying the game. That information about the game being capped at 30fps applied to the game before the patch. According to Fraps I am averaging 44 fps.

Because it's CPU heavy. When you're in the menu, there isn't much for the CPU to do and so it spews frames out like crazy. While you're playing, your cpu is so busy doing stuff (read that as nothing good) you can barely load up your GPU with stuff. It's basically a console game, they tend to be unfairly CPU heavy like this.

Another thing. I have 4gb of ram, usually 3 of them are free. This game has committed the exact same amount of MB every time I ran it, no matter what. It takes ~996MB every time I run it. Now the fun part is. While playing, audio and stuff starts stuttering and I go look why... It's using page file... while I have 2 extra gb of ram free...

Fucking developers of shit.

Just as an addendum...

Hemmingjay, whatever they fixed for you, they broke for me... The game is highly unplayable for me after that last patch. :(

Well, never let is be said that Splash Damage are a bunch of moneygrubbing bastards. They've announced that the first Brink DLC pack will be free of charge. The only thing they said about a release date is "after PSN goes back up" (read: not in our lifetimes) PSN is back up now. Derp.

Read about it Here.

That's all well and good, now all we need is for them (or ATI) to fix performance on ATI cards. :P

Update for all ATI users: ATI just released a new driver release candidate (with updated openGL drivers). Steam forums claim it increases performance. I haven't been able to test it myself due to being at uni, but I will as soon as I get home.

Hopefully this fixes things, at least so that the game plays at 30+ FPS constantly...

30 is indeed comfortable and when I get 25 outdoors it's still bearable. I really hope this resolves things for you because it is a fun online shooter.
