it's also strange to review a multiplayer game so soon. It tends to take a while to get a feel for competetive online shooters.

VGrevolution gave it 9.4 for xbox360 so let's be fair and report a variety of feedback until more info is in http://www.vgrevolution.com/2011/05/brink-review/

metacritic is at 74 after 11 hours on the market

Bethesda actually owns several studios, including FPS granddaddy iD Software

It's actually Bethesda's parent company - ZeniMax - that owns id Software and half-a-dozen of other studios.

I only had time to play one solo campaign level last night, but a few things I noticed.

1)  AI seems to suffer from tunnel vision.  It might be because I'm playing on normal difficulty, but man I swear if I stand slightly to the left or right they just don't notice me.  It made it pretty easy to flank people.

2)  AI is missing a short term memory.  If I run around a corner to avoid being shot, I think the AI completely forgets I was ever there.  I can stand behind the corner and just wait for them to walk unknowingly past me.

3)  AI sometimes likes to ignore the primary objective.   Well, the friendly AI at least.  Ha!

4)  Ambient Occlusion drops my frames per second by about 100.  :)

5)  Shotguns are so much fun.  Seriously, so much fun.   :P

I'm having fun so far, I look forward to seeing how multiplayer feels.

I played both plenty of the single player, and a few rounds of the multiplayer.

First, my feelings are that this is going to be a major multiplayer game. The controls feel tight, the gunplay just feels right. I haven't enjoyed FPS mechanics so much since I used to play Unreal Tournament 2003 all the time.

The single player AI seems to have two settings, though. Complete idiot and Brutalizing. That's definitely something that'll need to get tweaked, but it wasn't game ruining.

And ZeniMax is basically just a holding company made by Bethesda to keep their other purchases separate from their own game studio. And they are still published under the name 'Bethesda'

i played an hour of singleplayer which is really just decent bot ai matches. AI does have dumb moments which you are grateful for since their buddies are using awesome flanking and parkour tactics to pwn you. Sp campaign is fun, but mostly it's just training for MP.

I am getting some slowdown issues after 10-15 minutes of playing so I turned down my settings and it wasn't as bad. I am sure MP runs smoother, not needing so much AI power. Pretty fun, more Quake/Enemy Territory than Black OPs, so don't expect a game that takes itself seriously.

I don't have it yet, but I love the way it sounds and seems to play! I shouldn't jump the gun and say its the best game ever before I have even played yet, but Brink looks great so far. I just hope it does not dissapoint me.

Hell, IGN gave it a six out of ten.

I lost all my respect for IGN with that review. It made no sense to me.
They say that the biggest problem is repetition, and that the map's objectives are all the same. Well, duh. Of course the maps and their objectives are all the same! Hell, Battlefield: Bad Company (The first one) had the same thing with multiplayer but worse. It was only ONE objective, all the time, and they gave it a 9 out of 10! ( Well, not that it's Multiplayer was bad. I personally had a lot of fun with it. )

They also said that that Brink was doing a lot with sound, and gave the sound a bunch of good reviews. They give it a 6.5 when it releases. Why? Because the explosions didn't pack that much of a punch. Seriously, who gives a game a 6.5 in sound for that?

They also say that Body size is difficult to remember. Isn't that something you REMEMBER? Its KINDA a big choice. Maybe you should also take a look at your weapon while your at it. I don't think the lightweight body size can carry a thousand pound chaingun, do you?

But enough of my rantings. Its looks like a good game and I am going to play it no matter what those reviewers say about it.

Clearly splash damage only gave them the small bribe.

I wasn't bugged until I read this. Has he never been pillaged by the other team during Rush in BC2? Attackers often have the advantage unless the map forces them through an awful choke point. Having to guard the body at least asks the attackers to as semi-competent as the defenders.

Either way it still reads like "MP mechanics don't work if you have a sucky team!" Well duh.

Also entertaining is in the story you are trying to kill that VIP, so it feels a little strange to be standing around guarding him when your job is to kill him.

Gameplay wise its not problem but its a bit funny story-wise.

I would think that a low score indicates lack of corruptness. I mean, they're not the only ones thinking it's bad.
