No dramatic improvement, I'm afraid. I get 20-30 FPS when not moving very far from one place in multiplayer. It's still playable at extreme lowest settings and 1280x800 resolution and I'm enjoying it, but it'd be more fun if it actually worked at my native resolution.

So apparently Brink is free for two days. Is it worth it?

D:

I'd say that it is, but that's because I like the game.
Also, they released some free DLC for the game, which I found fun. However, the DLC stuff should have been in the game on release day.

Nope as in it's not worth the bandwidth/time to download it when it's free? DX

Hey, I'm probably gonna get it once I get internet again, methinks. *shrug*
It might not be very realistic, but oh well, I like customizable characters. :P

You know the overall feel you have after playing a game? Movement, shooting, sounds, maps,guns... all together? Well my overall feel after Brink is very bad.

I found this thread today... on the first two pages everyone is hopeful for a new great game... then I skipped to page 6 & 7 and everyone said it's very bad.

"So typical of Bethesda" is what I have in mind right now...

The game is great if you have a massive gaming rig, a stellar connection and everyone on your server also has these things. It was very poorly optimized at launch and is slowly coming up to speed. It feels like it would have been awesome as a console mmofps.

Well yeah, I'd be getting it on PS3. If I ever get proper internet... I'll let you guys know what -I- think of it, as that's obviously the only opinion that matters! :D

Yes, not worth the time it takes to download it.

Quote from: Me, in another forum
The game is extremely poorly optimized for online play. I've tried with settings on max, settings on minimum, custom settings, everything possible.

Whenever you go online it feels like you have a limp. You take one fast step, one slow step, one fast step, one slow step, see 2 frames from 1 second ago, one fast step, one slow step, one fast step, one slow step, a couple more frames from a second or two ago, one fast step, one slow step...

I think you get the mental image by now.

And that's on a server with 17ms ping and with >60fps going on very very minimal custom settings.

Simply the worst thing I've ever bought.
(Edit: Okay, to be fair second worst, I sadly bought spore thinking it had something to do with the demo they showcased years before release.)

And then comes gameplay.

This game is one button smasher. Do you want points? Press your action key. Doesn't matter where, doesn't matter to whom. Just press it. Don't bother shooting people, giving a booster to someone is worth 4 or 5 kills. Give 3 boosters, die, repeat, you're on top score and gained the most xp with 0 kills and most deaths.

I started playing trying to like the game, but the flaws are so massive I got really annoyed by them. I wish I had never bought it. Waste of money.

I haven't seen any major issues with optimization. Then again, I've got a half-decent gaming rig (was really good two years ago, for what that counts for...), so that might explain it.

I'd disagree with Soulwynd's assessment of "not worth the download time" - if you've got the bandwidth available, go ahead and download it during your spare time. Remember, you can still run single-player Steam games during a download, if you pause/unpause the download while a game is running!

That said, having actually played the game, I would agree with an assessment of "not worth the money". It's... neat, and if it were 75% off I might've considered it twice, but as of now it's a generic FPS without a heck of a lot going for it. Freerunning? Sure, it's a neat way to get to the battlefield, but once you're there it's time to stop dead, jam your face down your gun's iron sights, and start taking aim. Classes? Same guns for everyone! Yay! Also, you have to unlock core abilities - it's like if TF2 made you wait for your first item drops before giving the Medic a Medigun, or before giving the Heavy his Minigun.  ::)

I have a massive gaming rig. It's still a piece of crap game when it comes to optimization. Specially with their network code, even at 10-20ms ping. Single player, however, runs a lot more smoothly, but who the hell wants to single player a competitive [fail] shooter?

This is the single most stupid thing a game can do to you. I have BFBC2 for about half a year, but only couple days ago found time to actually play it. Big map, lots of armor so i choose engineer, "pls help, how do i repair stuff?" "LOL NOOB USE REPAIR TOOL" ...i had to unlock it, same as defibrillator. FFS i felt like idiot with medic class, lots of wounded guys around me and all i could contribute to my team is just inaccurate MG fire.  >:(
