Ok. I don't want it to move on its own.(You can pasture it, and it'll go as fast as your dwarves)

Is there a way to do this while it can still shoot?
Make it aquatic. It'll beach and be unable to move, and shoot like lightning.
Then it'll "drown" on land and not shoot either. Besides, I don't want lungs in the robot.
It doesn't need to breathe. So it won't drown. It won't shoot while beached?

IMMOBILE_LAND is the tag you're looking for, but it won't work unless the creature's aquatic (it's actually that tag and not the aquatic one that stops things from moving on land). In that case it'd work if it was purely domestic, but obviously wouldn't elsewhere (I guess you could put them in cavern lakes or something if you really wanted to).

You'd have droids on crack. I don't know how to get them immobile without having A) Crackbots, just add water! or B) Almost never shooting.

I need a way for them to be turrets, and not robots on meth or metal cans.

What about making them die on contact with water? After all i doubt they are waterproof.

They are. They are a shell and bullets. How can water hurt them?

Water in Aperture was acid, and melted everything, including you.

Sorry but no i don't. Also i suspect that an aquatic animal will still be able to swim even with no skill. the speed could be very low but what is the point? If they cant get out and no one will get them out they'd just float around shooting at people.

The turrets must have electronics in them for the AI plus the laser and the speaker. Considering how easily they are killed i don't think they would be seriously waterproofed.

Another point is how will they live in the wild if they are aquatic? surely they would just spawn in water? I must admit though that i am not very familiar with this area.

I made them only domestic, so you won't be seeing many turrets in the wild.

If they can swim, then I'll resort to adding any kind of "Dies in water" code.

For future reference, what is the tag for that?

The only thing I can think of is giving them a really low fixed temp so that when they fall it water, it freezes, encasing them. (Damn, it's been a while since I've had to pull on that bit of trivia)

I tested the turrets and they drown in water.
