By the way, is research overflow wasted, or is it applied to the next tech in the line?
A research overflow will be applied to the next tech in that line, yes, although a minor* amount may be wasted.

*I cannot answer questions about "how much" or "why."

Your voices have been heard: Marines remain free, and do not cost population.
Marine transports cannot be used to transport civilians, as that would add annoying micromanagement for little gain.

Still interested in a sixth player?
Sorry, but I would have to restart the game again, as I'd rather not have a person in the middle of this map.

What choo talking about? I have 3k from last turn, and 5270*.45=2371.5 rounded up too 2372.

Oh, you're right. I had it in my head that you were going up from 180 to 190, not down from 185 to 175. My mistake. As for the ship, maybe you should put the carried-over production in there somewhere to prevent confusion?
