Full Thermal Suit
« on: May 07, 2011, 11:02:19 pm »

Is it possible to make a suit that protects all body parts from magma/heat? Something I can throw on a dwarf that doesn't need to breathe and drop him into the magma sea?
Edit: Is it possible to make armor that covers facial features, and protects them from all heat?

It would have to have an extremely low heat change rate (Warms and cools really slow) and have a self-made temperature of room temperature (50 degrees).

Any way to do that? I'm not a good modder.

To get something to have its own body heat (Like a human) have [HOMEOTHERM:XXXX] where XXXX would be the temperature in degrees Urist.

So all I would need to do is change adamantium. So, can an armor cover the entire body?

HOMEOTHERM is only a creature token; for material definitions you probably want MAT_FIXED_TEMP.

The heat change rate you talked about is SPEC_HEAT.

Has anyone modded to add asbestos?

It is thought that pure asbestos fiber was available in the ancient world. There are surface-exposed deposits in the Caucuses and there are reports of fireproof gloves.

It probably won't work unless we can get armor that covers the entire body, including facial features. Otherwise they'll bleed to death.

Do masks cover facial features? Do gauntlets protect fingers, cause it'll be akward if they didn't.

They don't protect fingers, unfortunately. They cover the hand and the forearm.

Think of it more as wrist armor with a fingerless glove.

That was fixed in 31.17. Or should have been.

What about boots and toes? And do masks cover the face? And facial features? This might be possible.

Necro, seriously, every thread I see you in, you post some absolute nonsense :P.
Please try to learn SOMETHING about the game before giving suggestions/replying.

Gloves/gauntlets protect fingers, helmets protect eyes.

It takes less than a minute to test something in Arena, don't be lazy.

Everything protects everything you need (I mean toes are protected by boots and socks, fingers are protected by gloves and gauntlets and all facial features are protected by ANY type of helmet).
Masks are worse than helmets because their coverage is 50, which means they can allow a strike to go past them with a 50% chance. Same with caps. Use helms.
