What is it with all of the whackjobs coming out of the woodwork all of the sudden? Has it always been like this?

It always has been, yes, but with the advent of social networking, the Internet being mainstream, and slow news days, they tend to get more coverage. Because apocalypses, along with murders, arsons, rapes, and jaywalking, sells better than "we just raised $500 to cure cancer at a local school!"

Well what do you know....old Harold didn't kill himself after all. He's just "flabbergasted". Which, I believe, is a quaint old way of saying, "WTF, God?!?"

Maybe we can call this the 2nd Great Disappointment. Although I think the Millerites were more numerous than the nutjobs listening to Camping, and there haven't been any lynch mobs yet.

The really funny thing about Camping's predictions is that they were clearly unsound regardless of whether you believe in christianity or not. Because they contradict his own supposed source (namely, the bible) for these supposed revelations:

Matthew 24:36 "However, no one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself. Only the Father knows."

Harold Campings statements!

He's taken the position that people were judged, albeit not physically whisked away, and the apocalypse will continue as planned. Naturally though it seems like he's now lined up for "Things will start exploding on October 21st" rather than "Everything will be finished exploding on October 21st".

Reporter, speaking of a May 21 follower: "How do you feel about this woman who tried to take her life and her own daughters' life?"

Camping hears incorrectly and thinks that somebody committed suicide.

Camping: "She attempted to? Oh my that makes me feel better because death is terrible. It's contrary to all that the Bible teaches."

Reporter: "Do you think any responsibility for that?"

Camping says he does "not take responsibility. I don't have spiritual rule of anybody, except my wife," he chuckles. "Because as head of the household I have spiritual rule over my wife."

Before, I just felt sorry for this guy. Now I hate him.

Yep. Apparently it was a "spiritual rapturing" in which the people who be "gwine up to hebbin" (to quote the immortal Frank Zappa) have been invisibly 'sealed' with the mark of Christ, which will cause them to be spared in the Apocalypse five months from now.

Y'know, when I was younger I always had this feeling I wouldn't live past 35. If he's right, then I'll miss 36 by less than a week.

Damn, by the time I retire I will have gone through the end of the world so many times that I won't have to fear anything.


I can also say, "Back in my day, the end of the world was an annual event! You kids these days have it easy, with the end of the world being predicted only every second year."
