Someone left a bunch of pamphlets about this in our cafe. They were promptly cleaned away. Sorry, random crazy person. No one wants to be proselytized to while studying for their nursing exam.

The really good bit is that when these fruit cakes are wrong, we can rub their face in it, but if through some strange twist, they were right? Well nobody will care, were all going to die, no time to do the 'I was right and you were wrong' dance.

I don't know... Some people still have too much pride if they're right. Plus, I'd like to witness something like that, just to see if anyone can brave the imminent end for a few seconds to dance in a way that allows them to brag that they rock. That is, before a rock falls on them, or they turn into a rock.

Yes, like it says in 2 Peter 3:10, the Rapture will come like a "thief in the night", ie a surprise you didnt see coming, when you least expected it.

BTW, this thread is rather offensive.

Don't you see, if we keep expecting it, it won't happen.

It is a rather large group of crazies. They have been able to afford billboards and shit to advertise the end of the world.

Maybe some of them, but I would bet a minority. Some people are really scared by this, and some people do really drastic things when they 'know' the world will end. Although it could easily be none at all! We can't predict what some people will do, just try to convince them that the 22nd will be another day.

Not quite sure if they are actually able to "afford it". Given that they believe the world will end, I wouldn't be at all surprised if they sold their houses and took out loans to pay for all the advertising.

Their have been numerous precedents of christian groups saying "the world is ending in XXXX" and after it fails to end, just going on their merry way (especially since Christians think that suicide will send them to hell, so i doubt they would use that as a way out).
Wait, they're going to kill themselves?
Highly doubt any of them will.

Rapture is much like a watched pot and boiling

There's a tale (overly paraphrased here) of a convicted murderer, told by the judge "You are to be executed within the next month.  You are now to be taken to your cells to sleep upon your fate, but due to the viciousness of your crime you shall not be told when you are to be executed until the morning of the day itself, so that you may be as unprepared for death as your victims were."

The condemned man, suffused with the art of logic, decided that he wasn't going to be executed, because by the middle of the penultimate day he would know for sure that he was being struck down on the last day, so he couldn't be due to be killed on the last day of the month.  But given that he couldn't be killed upon the last day of the month, he would have known by surviving until noon on the ultrapenultimate day that he was destined to be informed of his fate the following morning.  Which meant that he could not be killed then, either.

And so the logic re-applies itself as one rolls back through the time-line, and every possible day was excluded.  There was no possibility that he could ever be executed without being sure that it was to be that day.

There are a number of different possible endings to this tale.  But let's just say, for argument's sake, that the very next morning, he's pulled out of bed and executed.  And boy was he surprised...

As cool as I find the story of the surprise execution, I guess it doesn't work here since there isn't a "final date" provided for the rapture.

Anyway, it must take a special kind of thinking to believe that, even though the thousands of other doomsday predictions turned out to be wrong, yours alone is special and correct.

Especially as the guy making this prediction has a lot of people hyped for the end of the world in the past, and as you can clearly see, it did not come to pass. He put it down to 'mathematical error', and he's follows vanished into the mist.

Of coarse he's mathematical error was trying to apply maths to the bible to predict the end of the world.

Two days before my finals. Ha!

Also, right before the most annoying day of the year. I guess it's kind of a win-win situation for me.
