So...I played Kenshi a bit.
After a couple week playing that game on and off, it is now repetitive and I feel like theres no endgame. I guess I could attack cities now...but for what ? I have everything I need in my base, I could just buy most of the cities with my cash alone. Holy Nation insists on being dicks but they are the absolute least compelling villains in fiction. They look like how a third waver would describe the american far right, which annoys me more than it should. The other slavers are under the umbrella of the united cities, who are people I want to keep alive. Shreks are ok. Hivers are ridiculously harmless. Skelebots want to be left alone.
And now I have no idea what to do. Litterally no faction in Kenshi seem to be worth going against, so I'm left with massive income and a squad of musashis and none to do with them. So...
Yeah. When I'm done clearing the shrieking forest I don't know what I'll do.
There's more to the Holy Nation then that, if you start getting into some of the lore. But honestly, the real endgame stuff is in the southeast part of the map. I'm not gonna give any spoilers, but that's where the real high-level enemies live, and there's a lot of interesting bandit factions you can go after to take out their bosses. Or just organize an expedition to the Ashlands. There's a lot of lore related stuff there that is only uncovered by you taking down some of the hardest enemies in the game, and surviving one of the hardest (and aesthetically speaking, most interesting) areas in the game.
Although I wouldn't take some of those enemies on unless your guys are at least 60s in their combat stats. The
southern hive and second empire exiles in particular are real tough ones, and unlike the Western Hive, the southern hive will kill you on sight unless you're a skeleton. There's also the skin bandits in that area, who, if they down you, will skin you alive, the process of which destroys your armour, making it even harder to escape once captured.
If you want an easier challenge, you can go up in the cannibal coast and destroy all the cannibal groups. Past that, there's the Leviathan coast, where there's a lot of ancient labs, which are good to send teams to if you haven't maxed out your tech tree yet.
There's also the possibility of starting a new save file, which I've done. I was kinda feeling that way with my main save file, so I started a new one, and I've now sunk a ton of time into it. I've got one save in which I'm doing the whole base-building slave liberation shtick. I've got a bunch of bases on the islands off the east coast, and I'm launching raids on the slave camps to get more recruits. My other file is just two guys, and with them I'm doing the whole exploration, tech hunting thing. They're absolutely loaded now, but I've still got some areas I want to explore more. The Holy Nation hates them though, because I had to get them prosthetic limbs after they were unfortunately destroyed by security spiders. My advice, if you're going exploring, bring a skeleton, because they have a lot to say about some areas, that helps fill in some of the lore of Kenshi. Eventually I figure I'll merge the two save files, and go to all out war with the United Cities. Then I'll probably try to collect every Meitou weapon in the game, most of which are, of course, in the new southeast section.
