Injured Dwarf is untreatable?
« on: May 06, 2011, 10:42:38 pm »

So I've been playing DF for awhile now, first time posting on forums because I have run into a problem I can't seem to fix.

In a recent demon attack, a legendary stone crafter of mine, Urist, had his skull broken. Some other dwarf dragged his unconscious body to his bedroom instead of the hospital so now the poor guy has been lying in his bed, unconscious, requesting a diagnosis, but no one will go treat him. Dwarves will bring him water and food as needed, but no doctor will attend to him.

I have tried a number of solutions including making the guy's bedroom a hospital zone, making the bedroom "free", making a burrow in the bedroom and adding my medical dwarves to it, but they all just go and sit with the guy and have "No Job". Any ideas? It's getting real old having my dwarves wander around for water to take to the guy.

Have you tried deconstructing his bed?

If you have a Sr Medical Dwarf defined in the noble screen, and that noble is not overly busy or lazy, then they will go to the patient.  The hospital zone's purpose is more about defining "this is where injured dwarves get taken".  It doesn't prevent dwarves from being treated out in the field (but dwarves out in the field will sometimes starve/thirst because they don't get as much care and attention due to distance).

So I would say that you need to make sure that the diagnosis doctors are not too busy, not restricted by a burrow, and that they can actually reach the patient.  And maybe check to see whether they are lazy or don't like to help others.

I have the chief medical dwarf on the nobles screen, and in the past he has done a fine job of attending to patients as fast as possible, but he has been restricted to the room with Urist and his broken skill with "No Job" as his current status for quite awhile now. The rest of my medical staff is same way for the most part, all have no job or just Drink. When patients are actually in my hospital zone they have been treated asap.

I'll try the bed idea.

Deconstructing the bed worked like a charm. Thanks for the tip, as soon as the bed was deconstructed my chief medical dwarf carried him to the hospital and began diagnosing him.

if he refuses again to get threated, use a upward spike trap, it's the only way sometimes, but it's very rare for it to actualy be needed. Be ready tough
