Advanced Placement Courses
« on: May 06, 2011, 09:09:09 pm »

I just wrote the Advanced Placement United States History exam and it seems like we have a lot of AP students here, so let's discuss.

I'm also taking AP European History next year too, and AP English, I'll only write one of the exams though, I think.

Three.  I took one as a Sophomore, four as a Junior, and seven as a Senior.

I took the US History exam today, and will be taking Engish III's in a week or so. Next year I am signed up for European History, Comparative Governments and Politics, and English IV.

Why yes, I have taken an interest in the humanities, how ever did you tell?

I did six my senior year. It's only bad if they're scheduled at the same time.

No friends, XD

It wasn't that bad, because I basically didn't need to study for the psychology, English, economics, or math.  That just leaves the two physics tests, and... yeah, not much studying for that, either.

You know, just sit down, learn the stuff, okie-doke.  My teachers were really, really talented.

Mine was pretty good, I actually probably could have studied less and done as well, so I guess I could do it but I would likely bomb a few.

See, our teachers actually had us sit down at 8:00 AM in the morning and write two essays in an hour.  For English and French, we wrote at least one essay every single week, and had to turn in fully annotated novels/plays (i.e. one or more note on every single page; I still have my copies of all of those books, because the stuff was totally invaluable.  BC calc... I still remember one nightmare homework assignment when we sat down and did 90 derivatives.  Took me about 30-40 minutes.

About half of our APUSH class got 5's, and the rest got 4's; I became a school legend because I managed to get an A in the class.

Almost all 5s in the AP bio class; one of the guys who got the 4 had a D- or something in the class.  He's at UC Davis right now.

2 A's in the BC Calc class.  2 4's.  All the rest of the grades were 5's.

Everything was set up so that the courses would be much, much harder than the tests.

Our course came in at about the same as the test, without talking specifics (still under 48 hour limit) it seemed easier than I expected. I assume it gets harder in actual uni?

Yeah, definitely.  I'd say that in many cases, about a month of university information is like a semester in high school.  The tests are much, much harder, too... curve is far less gentle.

Well, actually, it's said that for most people college is far easier than surviving the high school I went to.  Unfortunately, I wound up at Berkeley in pure math, which is an exception to the rule.  It's true that I was massively, massively overprepared for most other majors, though.
