Luckiest Titan Kill (+ Introduction)
« on: May 06, 2011, 02:50:16 am »

Hello everyone,

I only started playing Dwarf Fortress last week so please forgive me if I sound newbish: In adventure mode my Axedwarf and his faithful crew had a run-in with 'Bebmal' - the flying Sand Titan. I thought we were gone for sure, and my spearman buddy had his head torn off within the first two rounds of fighting. After some more fighting I picked up his corpse (never leave a man behind) and threw it at the Titan in a fit of desperation (unless you can use him as bait). The mutilated corpse was thrown over two z-levels high - dwarven hammerthrow skills - and strikes the titan: with lifesaving results:

Is this normal - I didn't properly look at the titan but he had scales, wings and a stinger - he lived in the middle of the redsand desert at a shrine or something. Last time a titan attacked me in my fortress, and he slaughtered a few dozen dwarves, but this one died after some arrows, axe hacks and a post-humous body slam...

Yes it's normal. A brain damage equals an instakill, and throwing is not balanced at all. You can behead a bronze colossus with a fluffy wambler if you are lucky enough.

So there IS a reason why do we get no throwers in the fortress mode :).

P.S. Let me show you something which totally describes adventure mode throwing and its craziness:

Friend of mine drew something absolutely hilarious, I thought it would be nice to share with you peoples.

I am going to copy the chicken entry and rename everything chocobo and make it 100x the size of a normal chicken and make it rideable.  Too bad our dwarves probably wont ride them. >_>
