I get the point. So instead of actually trying to compare the games or bring up problems with both games, you just want to say, "Oh, hey guys lets sink this thread with useless posts of "this sucks"!" Really?
P.S. A quote within a quote. (!)
We
did compare the games, for several dozen pages worth of posts. In several other threads. And one of them turned into a bit of a flame skirmish before the OP abruptly locked it after a few months. But I see your point, so here's my opinion:
As a gamer, I consider them different games for different moods.
Minecraft is a first-person building game that can easily sate my occasional engineering-lust with all sorts of mechanical blocks to screw around with, and spelunking is incredibly fun when you've got a big cavern to explore.
DF has a much slower pace, and focuses more on managing simulated outposts (RTS style) and interacting with your randomly generated world. It lacks the instant gratification and accessibility of Minecraft, but makes up for it with an incredibly diverse and detailed world with infinite gameplay possibilities. I enjoy them both, and don't really need to declare one "better" than the other to do so.
As a game
designer, Dwarf Fortress is infinitely more fascinating to me. Just observing the complex simulated game world, as well as thinking about the features yet to come, is just as fun as playing the game itself. I just don't get that with Minecraft.
Sorry for shooting you down like that, it's just that threads like this are what give this forum a reputation for calling out any game remotely similar to DF as a "ripoff". Though that's obviously not what you're doing.
