And this, my friends, is why I am a dual-weilding advocate. We already know how a sword works, you stick the pointy in into the other man [Thank you, Zorro.].

None of this french-talk with dual weilding. Just twice as much stabbing.

I dual wield shields.  Twice the SHIELD-TO-THE-FACE as all other varieties of combat.

OH MY GOD. You reminded me that Dual-weilding is coming in Skyrim.

Which, if my understanding is correct, means you can dual-weild shields.

Dual-axe barbarian? Please.

Dual-Towershields? Bring. It. On.

If it does allow it, I must play it.  No game I know of has allowed dual-shields, aside from DF.  I can remember tanking in Neosteam, and begging the GM's to let me dual-shield.  We could dual-gun and dual-sword, it was just discriminating!

i thought bucklers could be used in conjunction with a weapon in one hand, whereas shields limited you to a single one-handed weapon.

From what I understand, you can use a shield in either your right of left hand, just as you could use a sword/axe in right or left hand. Using this, I can only assume that you could have a shield in either hand as well. Since I've heard I've been giddy with excitement. :>

I just checked, and you can dual-shield in Adventure mode. Can't equip a buckler and a weapon in the same hand, though. But I'm almost sure crossbows will only let you use a buckler, not a shield, so there.

This is because a shield is an armor piece, and follows different rules.  It is equipped to a hand similar to a glove.  In adventure mode, this means you can stack near-infinite shields, but fort mode has somehow managed to make it reasonable and allow one grasp per hand.

I've always been a big fan of weapon and empty hand.
I think it's cool when dwarves throw goblins.

Wait, how do you do that? Only way I know of to "wield" a shield it to pick it up with an empty hand. Picking up a shield when both hands are full just puts it in your backpakc. So how, praytell, do you multi-wield shields?

Whilest fighting in the SCA you have to be hyper aggressive with a buckler since it offers less protection but there is more chance with a larger shield to get up close and use it to pin down the arm (or smash them in the face which is deadly... a reason its illegal in the sca to shield punch)

Another person in the SCA? Me too. Mainly due to games like DF and Oblivion.
Although I'm more into the Combat Archery, and because historically archers carried somekind of side weapon and most likely a buckler, we do quite a lot of sword and buckler fights so I have so hands-on experiance with it. One particular move that I'm trying to learn is where you distract your opponent with your outstretched buckler and step foward and strike while keeping your buckler stationary. Although we're not allowed to do so in the SCA, historically you would wind or cripple your opponent by striking them in the throat or likewise to disable them. They were used in conjunction with swords or poleaxes to take down unarmoured and armoured opponents respectively.

ya its illegal because its super effective I get frustrated when i go in for a shield punch instinctivly and stop halfway getting myself killed :(

I just assumed that there were two basic options when armoring a Dwarf - heavy&slow for Knights, and  light&fast for archers/rangers. Mail leggings I would suppose are light&fast compared to greaves (you cant wear both) and bucklers are light&fast compared to a full-body Shield. Bucklers should allow the character to move and attack/block more quickly but will have a greatly reduced block rate if they are unskilled, a Shield however will encumber a character (unless they are mighty) but will afford a great deal more protection (from direct blows).
Same goes for Helms and Caps - Tank or Rogue.
