How do combat opportunities work?
« on: May 04, 2011, 06:44:24 pm »

I mean, all those "square", "very square" etc...and the difficulty of a blow to get to a target...are they just random at every step, or there some sense in it? if so, what are the elements that make a shot better then other?
Thank you!

They're random and they're probably based on size. If you're high enough weapon skill you can hit difficult shots consistently though, so that doesn't scale.

Live long if you can, and prosper by any means necessary.  Any means, Urist.  So pull that lever, or by Armok, I'll lock you outside come next siege.
He who plays with dwarves must take care that he does not become a dwarf.  And when you stare into DwarfFort, Dwarffort stares back into you.

I have noticed that shots are easier if you have an advantage over your opponant in terms of positioning. ie: if you execute a wrestling throw or takedown, your next sword swing has a much higher chance of landing.

Christ, are you dwarves or are you elves? If you think Hell has too many demons, then youkill them till the population reaches an acceptable number.
Dwarf Fortress: So horrifying the players would rather talk about nice things, like Warhammer 40k.

They're not random. DF keeps track of things being left/right and such, so I can only guess it generates a flow in combat of who's where, and also if you're on the floor etc.

I think it's the way towns develop now. In the beginning, people move into a town. Then they start producing tables, which results in more and more tables. Soon tables represent a significant portion of the population, they start lobbying for new laws and regulations, putting people to greater and greater disadvantage...

Sleeping targets will have all parts marked as simple hit, direct hit.
