Animal takeover?
« on: May 04, 2011, 12:58:07 pm »

So I created a new world today, made a new adventurer, same basic stuff. As always, I was told to go kill something so I went to the nearest fortress to get some soldiers. But when I got there was nobody but a single lord in the fort. I thought it was kind of strange, but decided to move on to the next fortress.

When I got there I immediately noticed a large group of camels outside the walls. They ran away as I approached them looking for the entrance. When I found it, I immediately entered and was kicked in the head by a camel, killing me.

I obviously had to go look at what the the hell was going on, so I created a new adventurer and went to the fortress. After one attempt being thwarted by the bogeyman I arrived at the fortress to find absolutely no one there. No soldiers, no lords, no camels.

Shrugging, I retired and made a new a new adventurer in a new region. Went to another fortress, and found some allies. After killing a bandit leader I went to yet another fortress where I found a herd of Rhesus Macaque's and Turkeys who have apparently formed an alliance and taken over the fortress.

So, any explanations?

Yeah this happens. And be careful, since animals can't open doors, you are bound to get hit/accidentally provoke one outside a door.

In my experience, you see lots of abandoned forts when your pregenerated history gets over 300 years or something. I'm sure the threshold must be based on the size of the world or something, but it seems like there's always some point in history at which forts start getting destroyed/abandoned left and right.
