Sometimes it takes a little while for a fortress to completely crumble. I've had a fortress hit the end of a massive tantrum spiral leaving only one child alive, perfectly content, with four kills to her name. She sat in the booze stockpile hummimg happily.

I suppose I could have walled in and waited for immigrants to arrive, but I was impatient, so I abandoned. At least I know she didn't want for food or booze; there was over 4000 of each stockpiled.

Actually I do think it is more like rock salt. A salt FB would be better made of giant NaCl crystals rather than just powdered salt.

As far as I know, all of the FB's and similar creatures are totally random. It's entirely possible for a beast to be made of powder salt, floating water or even Air. In previous versions, these beasts were invincible, since they couldn't be damaged. Now, a single punch from a crippled dwarf with 1 arm, no legs and 3 missing eyes will splatter its brains all over the fortress walls.

If a lack of strong sieges is a problem, try the Fortress Defense Mod in my sig.

Also note that killing the goblin leader will cause the goblins to lose access to mounts, meaning that buggy flying mounts will no longer occur.
