RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT HQ
Nirur-R yells, "HELLLLLOOOOO! ANYONE HOME?!" His voice echoes around the big room.
There is no answer.
"Ohboyohboyohboyohboyohboy!" babbles Cript-R, upon seeing the boxes. He rushes at the counter, tries to jump it...
BOING
...and bounces off a prototype energy shield. He falls to the floor, but picks himself up uninjured except for a minor bruise. Tutting, Skrank-B fires his blaster into the energy field, overloading it. With a flash it collapses. The clones smell burnt circuitry.
Everyone piles over the counter to search. They come up with:
- A flashlight each.
- Some kind of laser rifle, and plenty of powerpacks. It has some kind of scanner on it. Skrank-B takes charge of the rifle, since it's BLUE clearance.
- 10 extra barrels for Cript-R's blaster, and several more GREEN blasters with notes on them: "Authorized for use by any RED clearance clone. The Computer was our friend..." Everyone grabs one, including Skrank-B, since they're more powerful than his BLUE blaster. They discard their old weapons.
- On the counter, unnoticed before, they find a small device about the size of a bot's data cartridge. It has a keypad on it. Strangely enough it has no clearance, its just shiny metal. Next to it is a typed note...
If you're reading this, you're probably some kind of troubleshooting team. Well, I wish you the best of luck. The threat to the complex is very, very deadly. This little device embodies it.
This is a universal computer hacktronic device, created by a rogue R&D tech. It incorporates the very latest in A.I. technology, and it's specifically programmed to be able to hack into almost any computer system in seconds. It's the root of our troubles.
Someone, I don't know who, used it to actually hack into The Computer. They've disabled the local compnode and initiated a full, complex-wide powerdown. Everything is being put into hibernation, except for the guardbots, who are now programmed to confine anyone they find free in stasis tanks.
Our only hope of survival is to get this device to a Computer console and use it to restore power to the complex. It won't be easy.
The message is not signed.
Everybody exchanges their laserguns for GREEN blasters.
Skrank-B takes charge of the device. "I'll go back to the flybot and find a map. While I'm gone, you lot... well, I guess you can play on your PDCs or something. Search for anything useful." He hefts his blaster and strides off into the dark.
Did you notice that he left the rifle behind?
