Wouldn't that just be English (poorly) written with Cyrillic?

Only for hardcoded text.

Just curious,

Artem, how did you hear about dwarf fortress?

I started playing back in the 90-X's, I had a weak computer and basically playing Roguelike and MUD
Since then has passed a long time, but I still like such games.

We also have a popular game Minecraft
Developer Markus Persson tried to make her look like a Dwarf Fortress
So I learned about this game.

I think that translating the dwarf fortress wiki through google translate and looking at the similar words and parts in dwarf fortress would be enough. You would know how things worked without actually needing to know what the words mean.

I wish you good luck in trying to learn how to play Dwarf Fortress through the language barrier. In fact, it's probably going to be more satisfying to learn especially if you can't understand the english. That's like 50 extra win.

He who plays with dwarves must take care that he does not become a dwarf.  And when you stare into DwarfFort, Dwarffort stares back into you.

Черт ... Я хотел бы говорить на русском...

Damn... I wish I could speak Russian...

Oh hey! You wouldn't happen to be able to translate this!?

It's in Ukrainian, but whatever...

Sorry for totally derailing the thread there. I seem to do it fairly often.

Well, now you have a choice.

A) Learn Dwarf Fortress without knowing the english language.

B) Rocket Science.

I now have three in the morning, I sit with a wiki and an interpreter, trying to figure out how to play. :)
You do know that there is clone of Magmawiki in Russian (http://www.dfwk.ru/), right?

Don't know Ukrainian either but something like "How sky is blue, it has no bounds."

If this guy is seriously learning to play DF with no English, he is clearly some kind of demented God.

I still have some dificulties with forgotten beasts description - those words like "undulates" or "towering" make me check the dictionary. But actually russian wiki has less info than english one, so it's good to start, but then you have to look up in original one. So, I think Toady should concentrate on more gameplay features rather than localization.

But community games in russian would be great! It's easier to explain emotions in native laguage, and emotions are everything there.

Ну что, отмечаемся тут? =)

Computer games helped me to learn English, but DF might be too complex for that :)

As for Vodka, millable plants are also brewable in DF.

I am also looking for a method or tool to translate into Chinese. However, it may not be realized. Regret ....
Coincidentally, I also play Minecraft first, and then accidentally exposed to Dwarf Fortress.
Even more interesting, as my English is very bad, not only write through google translate, but also to see your message is relying on GOOGLE, ha ha ha

Вообще надо учить английский, по жизни пригодится, как ни крути, с какой стороны ни взгляни. ;-)
As for unknown words use the Context translator (http://www.google.ru/search?num=100&hl=en&safe=off&biw=1250&bih=644&q=context+%D0%BF%D0%B5%D1%80%D0%B5%D0%B2%D0%BE%D0%B4%D1%87%D0%B8%D0%BA&btnG=Search&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=) or even a Google translate.

I don't think one needs to know English very well to play DF. He would have difficult to read the wiki, and that's it.

Exactly and since learning DF is a cakewalk who needs a wiki in the first place.
