Giant Olms, despite being Giant, are still olms, and are still rather flimsy amphibians.

Giant olms don't nest, and don't come into groups in vanilla DF (I modded my game so they come in groups of 1-2)

You say it is your first fortress, so I doubt you have modded your game to get 10 giant olms at once on the map.

And what was that about your axeman trying to kill a cave spider ? You can't attack vermin, only cats can.

My soldier has killed 9, but the last one has knocked his sword out of his hand.
In response, he did the same.
Now theres an olm man-dorf fistfight going on.
