Sony's Bullshit
« on: May 02, 2011, 05:07:24 pm »

So, Sony's utter failure at protecting the private information of it's userbase has finally revealed to probably involve computer games, too.

What the hell, really? I think two of my email addresses have been hacked (reported them to Google today) and I luckily changed the other two to a series of random letters and numbers that should be near unbreakable (as unbreakable as it gets without authenticators).

This is just fucking vile.

Just a warning to all you guys with SOE accounts to change passwords etc before you get your emails hacked / credit card details stolen. I (luckily) deleted mine from their site a few weeks back, but you guys should know about this.

EDIT: Oh, look at that. Fucking Sony, man.

It's part of the reason I'm hesitant to buy things online with my credit card.  Out of curiosity can you pay for Sony's services with one of those prepaid cards?

I'm glad I recently changed my password 0.o Damn, you know you've messed up as a company when even a couple of first-year students know what they did wrong and what they should've done. :P

Credit cards aren't really that much of an issue. I'm having far more trouble trying to remember all the places where I have accounts or otherwise that need passwords changed. I'm going to have to come up with some sort of password system since I keep forgetting them all the time. I have absolutely no clue what password I used with PSN.

And that is why you always read the terms and service. Yep, the long page that it always tells you to read before signing up for anything is actually good for something.
Good for screwing you over with double speak and lawyer talk, this is almost eerily plain spoken...

No, it as actually bad for something (for you) because it is basically always used to absolve the corporation of any and all responsibility for their own actions.

Sorry, I can't see how them leaking the information database would make people able to get into an email unless you used the same password as with SOE.

I have a feeling that would go under "unenforcable contract terms", at least here in the UK.  It's very clear negligence.

You can't even class-action lawsuit them anymore. Thanks Supreme Court!

EULAs have often been ruled unenforceable/unbinding in court.  Not always, but often.

Also, good luck using any product or service anymore without a "we're not liable for anything ever" clause in the EULA.
