Miscellaneous stockpile
« on: May 02, 2011, 01:46:19 pm »

How about a special setting for a stockpile, which would automatically store all (and only) the stuff which doesn't have a specially designated stockpile yet? (Perhaps sans refuse, wood and stone.)

A pile you could set up initially to gather all the various embark equipment; once you establish actual specialized stockpiles, the objects would get automatically disabled and transfered there. It would also take care of the odd bits from industries not present in a given fort (sandbags and pearlash on a map with no sand, extra picks from migrants, the occasional animal cage which always just sits in my trade depot...)

I think it would make things a little easier and the fortress a little cleaner.

I was thinking of a stockpile 'priority' system, where you could make an 'everything' stockpile, and set it to zero; create the main werehouse stockpiles, set to one, and small stockpiles near workshops with priority two.

Don't tell anyone that you can see their shadows. If they hear you telling anyone, if you let them know that you know of them, they will get you.

I do this already, but it's a rather manual process, I would rather like it if it was automated.

What could happen is that you select what you want, so you can set it to accept everything including stone if you want, then when stockpiles are built it automatically deselects the item type from the settings.

This is probably the most sensible way to do it, and deffinitely would open up quite a few interesting, more advanced options as well.

Bravo for a great idea, sir.

Awesome idea.

Food stockpile is major offender here - everyone starts with huge "take any food" stockpile that gathers whatever food items are laying around, but then splits to specific output (booze/ready meals) and inputs (cookable, brewable, millable ...) stockpiles.

Having this a bit easier would be much appreciated.
