Oh no, a man was hurt.. lets cry emo emo /slit wrist

Seriously, the man took credit for the murder of a massive amount of innocent people(not just in America). Some people just need killing, get over it or step aside while the adults deal with it :P

Yeah, I forgot things were that simple. Who the fuck need a justice system anyway.

So my fellow citizens of the world, today is a grand day. Osama bin Laden has been killed!!!
His followers, who are really keen on martyrdom, to the point of often killing themselves on their attack, will see his fighting death as something seriously infamous, for sure. Actually, this will surely mean the end of the war of Afghanistan, right? Now we can pull our troops back!!! ( A quick reminder : the Talibans and al Quaida, while allied, are completely distinct organizations, and it's the Talibans who are fighting.)
But more important, justice has been served, because justice is, as everyone know, about killing your enemy. It's not about getting light on the events that led to the griefs, determining responsibilities and, finally, punishing the crime.
Today is a grand day for America, for the world, a day who proved that ... ... ... (add here anything you like).

Edit : Oh and a last perspective, compare this and the end of WW2. Nuremberg trial versus the death of ben Laden. Can you see the difference? Because back hen, you got it right.

Goddammit, how far do I have to go to get an argument that isn't a. empty and which b. doesn't use tactics of denigrating the mentally ill and infantilizing those who prefer peace?

I expect better of you, sir/ma'am :I

Capture would have been infinitely preferable, obviously, but I'm very glad he's gone. It's a symbolic victory to be sure, and I can't help but feel a sense of foreboding at the eventual response to this. But for now, I'm just happy he's gone.

Yeah, I forgot things were that simple. Who the fuck need a justice system anyway.

When a person pleads guilty to a crime, a justice system isn't necessary. The whole argument against the death penalty is that we can never know for certain if a person is guilty. When you're engaged with war, with a person who has killed your people, will continue to kill your people, and is happy to brag about it, you have to kill him before he kills you.

That is life. That is reality. If he denied it and there was no proof he was responsible, I might care. While I admire your idealism, it simply isn't practical and it certainly doesn't work.

Some people just have to be contradictory  ::).

Look, I agree that wanting a person to die is bad, but there's a threshold where a person goes from being a person and becoming a monster, and monsters are only good for being killed and having their bones made into nifty armor.

That is not the whole argument against the death penalty.

Noone, as proven by existence of Guantanamo and other illegal detention and torture interrogation bases.

That is not the whole argument against the death penalty.
That's not even the most debated argument against the death penalty. One of the main arguments is typically that 'eye for an eye makes the whole world blind' - or that killing out of revenge or a feeling of justice doesn't solve the original problem - which is the hate that brings people to kill in the first place.

Well, if Osama had turned himself in peacefully he might not be dead. Hell he might have been able to get a trial from the UN or something, but no.

We'll see that after the renewed attacks on our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the yet another blow to the international reputation of the US.
It's funny how "the things that work" such has torture, fighting technique who lead to the death of civilian and unlawful actions tend to fail these last years. Still you always find poeple who thing that making things correctly is for hippies.

Every time things like that are done, you just give weapons to our enemies.

And btw, even when you plaid guilty, a justice system is necessary.
But... my point is done out of compassion for Ben Laden, seriously who care for that guy. My point is : he got of way too lightly. He should have had a long trial, during which his personage would have been deconstructed, his personal stories revelated, and all informations on his actions would have been exposed. Of course, every responsibility in this whole fiasco would have been exposed, and his image as a charismatic leader would have been tarnished.
Instead, he died fighting special forces... seriously, did you WANT to make him a legend?

I think you assume too much. Humans are complex creatures. They might take his death as a sign to fight harder, or they might bail ship like bilge rats. While we should expect the worse, nothing can be said for certain.
