Do I have some serious problem of sorts?
« on: May 01, 2011, 06:18:50 pm »

If I ask a serious question on here, and it may, or may not be something really weird, will people be understanding, and give good responses... Or will people laugh and i'll never be able to show my face on bay12 again?

No longer about that.

I had a panic attack (I felt sick, shaking, all that stuff that comes with it) at this really weird movie that I went to after promising my girlfriend i'd go. There were lots of people, dancing, loud music, and people yelling before the movie. The movie itself was pretty much just a movie, but with staff yelling funny stuff over it (Honestly, it's better that way...). I've had a problem with social environments and complete strangers. Never this bad... I mean, panicing from people dancing, and having fun?

After this episode, I feel as though I should be questioning whether i'm all fine or not.

Just ask it and find out.  If it's stereotyping of various groups you'll probably be gently yelled at, but you won't be laughed down or ostracized.  I don't think.

People will make some jokes. But you'll get earnest responses too. Just realize if you present a real trainwreck, you can end up with one for a thread.

Well, the question I want to ask involves having a panic attack in a situation that really (It's s'posed to be fun...) didn't call for it.

Nah.  No one should make fun of you, and if they do, I imagine the folks policing this zone for miscreants would eat them alive.  In fact, I'd be almost certain of that.

Well, I guess i'll ask then... Should I just do it here, or make a new topic? I'm not a fan of having more then one of my topics show up on the first page.

That's okay, my English is also a bit weird.  Edit the original post to reflect what you'd like to ask.

... I don't know why you wouldn't have that reaction, honestly, because if I showed up and there was that much noise I'd just turn around and leave.

That's just me, though.  If you value calm in difficult environments then you can work on that.  But I don't think that there's anything "inherently un-fine" about someone who panics in such a situation.  You may have trouble with certain societal expectations, but it's up to you to evaluate whether or not those expectations are just, and what you want to do.

Been with your girlfriend long? Had issues of feeling inadequate in social situations where she's involved?

... It's only as serious as you decide it is.  Obviously you think it's at least somewhat serious, because it's on your radar of "things that are worth it to head into Life Advice for."

So... what would you like us to do to help you?

Possible that your gf makes you more sensitive to your environment.
