I had a great fort going, always had about 200 booze of various types in stock (I grow all crops just to spoil my guys with variety).

I finally created a military from 4 peasant immigrants and set them off duty to train.  Suddenly I notice one of them stop sparring and run off.  Normally I don't follow dwarves but I was bored so just followed him and checked what he was doing.  I noticed he was leaving the fort so I checked his task.  It said he was going to drink!  Drink outside?!  There's only one thing outside and it's not suitable for drinking.. water!

Of course he instantly was killed by a carp the moment he went near the river.

So, what could have made my dwarf suddenly ignore all the booze everyone else was happily drinking and decide to go drown him self trying to attack a carp?

That might be it right there. If you have a large number of dwarves and all your booze is contained in a relatively small number of barrels, it's possible all the barrels were tagged for usage. Solution: make moar booze.

Adn also make more barrels for that booze.

Military dwarves only fill waterskins with water, not booze.  I didn't think they only ever drink water though.  Weird..
