More Newbie Questions !!!!!!!!
« on: May 01, 2011, 01:03:01 pm »

Well every thing was going well  but then i was besieged and was forced to raise my bridge strapping several dwarves outside.  however those dwarves gathered at the bridge and the enemy force stayed on the other side of the map.  I decided it was safe to let my trapped dwarves in but when I oppened the bridge lo and behold half my fort LEAVES goes out and starts wandering around so my question Is there a way to keep dwarves that are inside, inside

Press w, create a burrow, and define your entire fort for the burrow.
When you want them to get in the burrow, press m, then a, select the burrow and tap enter.
Then all civilians will run to the burrow.

The folks over at http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?board=7.0, Gameplay Questions, may offer a bit more help if you need gameplay questions answered. That is, after all, what that board is for.

But burrows are the solution here. Designate where you want the dwarves to be, and then tell them to be there. Burrows can be pretty versatile, but they can also be pretty complex. Stick to the basics and/or use the wiki if you've not had much experience with burrows. They're useful.
